Once in a Blue Moon…

Next Sunday’s Full Moon is a Blue Moon, but don’t expect it to turn blue. It simply means it’s the second full moon in a single calendar month.

This one comes with a twist: it’s also a micromoon, sitting near its farthest point from Earth (at its apogee), so it may look slightly smaller than usual 👀

Blue Moons only happen every few years, thanks to the Moon’s 29.5-day cycle. Because most months are slightly longer, we occasionally get two full moons in one month, giving rise to the phrase “once in a blue moon.”

Look up next weekend, and you’ll spot it shining near the reddish star Rehua (Antares).
