ANZAC Day — Remembering All Who Stood

Today, as we remember the ANZACs and all those who gave their lives in service, we also reflect on the deeper roots of sacrifice in Aotearoa’s history.

Bruce Luxford’s powerful work Last Stand captures a haunting moment from the New Zealand Wars—an earlier conflict where lives were lost, courage was shown, and the course of our nation was forever changed.

Though separated by time, the soldiers of the Māori battlegrounds and the shores of Gallipoli shared the same fate: they stood, they fought, and many never came home.

We remember them all.
Ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou.
We will remember them.

Press Release: New Zealand and Maorii Art
The New Zealand and Māori Art – Online Contemporary Gallery, now live, offers a curated online space for art collectors and enthusiasts to discover and purchase unique artworks.

"I saw a clear need for a platform that could highlight the brilliance of New Zealand art, not just locally, but on the international stage," says Lorraine Ball, founder of the gallery. "This is more than just a gallery: it’s a celebration of the diversity and depth of New Zealand’s creative community. Each artist brings a unique perspective and style that embodies creative expression.”

The online gallery features pieces by established New Zealand artists, including Darcy Nicholas, Alex Nathan, Bruce Luxford, Sarah Albisser and Maria Brockhill, alongside newer artists like the respected Darcy Solia, a Samoan painter, Pekere, Carl Ruka, Māori sculptor, and Sophia Parun.

Additionally, works by Kim Beaton and Jade Valour, two American/New Zealand artists with deep roots in the international film industry are exhibited.

Content on Artist’s profiles, journey and achievements, will help to give viewers unique in-depth look into their compositions.

"We aim to create an accessible, dynamic space that champions the creativity of New Zealand's diverse art community," Lorraine adds. "We’re proud to provide a platform for both well-established names and emerging talents to reach a broader audience."
