As in many professions, the white, female artist feels, even as a holder of unearned privilege, the obscure weight of helplessness in facing the inhumane in humans. Everything seems murky. No-thing and no-man is to be trusted. Understanding means dealing with the deliquium that comes with complexity.

An irregular rhythmic motion. Artists and their ideas, right? -No, left! Right, left. Right. Left. Anywho. Has anyone seen Dada yet?

Antarctic ice edge series.

This series is the result of an exploration of the landscapes in a place that exists primarily in ice. I have chosen images that not only shed light on the variety of conditions, patterns and forms that ice inhabits in Antarctica, they also serve as metaphors for the psychological landscapes in which I existed while living there.

Ice has the ability to make us question our assumptions about what is permanent, about what is stable. The ice shelf appears as solid as land and yet there is water rushing a few feet beneath.

When an ice breaker rips through the winter ice, it leaves chaos and disharmony in its wake.

Sea ice is in constant flux; a capricious and joyful landscape. It is the dance between water and ice.

Lastly, the ice edge is a frontier. It is the line that is struck between known and unknown.

Antarctica is otherworldly in its monochromatic sublimity. It is as diminutive as it is vast. Through looking closely at ice, it is possible to steal a glimpse of the past, present and future of the place.

The photographs were taken in 1996 from a ship in the Ross Sea.

'During a recent artist residency in Taiwan I stumbled upon a stack of handmade paper left behind by a previous artist. Paper is so abundant and utilitarian, I never considered it to be a beautiful thing.

Returning home to Aotearoa I began to make paper in my studio, examining its material qualities and re-imagining it as a decorative quilt.

By assembling sheets of paper as one might piece together fabric, the material shifts from a carrier of information to an object of contemplation.'

𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘭 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬 is an object embodying a meditation. It counts the time in a season of insecurity to sense a way through. While this is a still, quiet position, there is an intention for internal momentum and like the seasons the unseen underground work eventually leads to growth. These changes are imperceptible in the moment but are nonetheless taking place. In the meantime the stillness is felt, accepted and honoured.
