Inspired by several trips to Nelson Lakes, this painting was born from time spent exploring the area's beech forests and river valleys. While wandering through the bush, I often encountered South Island Miro Miro (Tomtits)—small native birds known for their curiosity and tendency to investigate anyone passing through.

Rather than flying away, these little birds would often stop and watch, becoming the inspiration for this piece.

A Commission completed for clients, A pair of Black Robins socializing in the scrub-land of Pitt Island/Chatham Islands. This was done for a client who was part of Black robins (Petroicatraversi) being reintroduction to Pitt Island (Rangihaute/Rangiauria) as part of a conservation effort to save the endangered species. 🐦‍⬛
