This incredible painting by local Graham Young, Artist reminded us that the North Island Surf Boat Championships are happening at Waihī Beach this weekend! 🌊

Over three action-packed days, some of Aotearoa’s strongest and fittest surf lifeguards will take to the water at one of the country’s most iconic surf boat venues.
Proudly hosted by Waihi Beach Surf Lifesaving Club , this is shaping up to be a brilliant weekend of racing, atmosphere, and beachside energy.

What’s on:
Friday 6 February – ERC Surf Boats ’26
Saturday 7 February – North Island Surf Boat Championships ’26
Sunday 8 February – Champion of Champions ’26

If you’re looking for something a little bit special to do by the beach, this is a great one for spectating. Expect high-energy racing, plenty of action on the water, and a DJ playing across the weekend to keep the vibes high.

Pop down, find a spot on the sand, and soak it all in, Waihī Beach at its best 💙
