Bella Street Pumphouse Museum

Bella Street Pumphouse Museum Today it is an important industrial heritage site.

Dating from the 1890s, the Bella Street Pumphouse is what remains of a plan to sink the Queen of Beauty mine shaft to a depth of 610 metres complete with a large pump to dewater the mine.

Postcard south down Mackay Street. Focus on Bella Street and the old Pumphouse ? Electricity Board Workshop, next door to the old Milk Treatment Station.
The full view south over the town, with the retirement village in the foreground. What else can you spot or remember. Central School kids will know the land in the foreground as the playing field. Now housing and the Bright Smile Garden.

Then & Now Campbell Street. Another great donation this week was a postcard of Campbell Street. Lizzie was sent a card from someone leaving Thames at 11 o'clock, and guess what it was raining hard! Some things never change! Looking east along the road to Bella Street we have another landmark that still exists - the old Pumphouse. How did the photographer get such a high angle / view? Remember which yellow heritage sign is on the Albert Street intersect and you will have the answer...we will see that view next!
