Where was this? According to the 1975 Bay of Plenty telephone directory, John's address was Main Rd Bethlehem R D 1. So in the country, and fairly new, since it wasn't in the 1973 directory.

Watersiders stacks cartons of explosive aboard the Auckland scow Alma moored alongside the Golden Jade, berthed at Tauranga (?). The Alma ferried its cargo to the permanent explosive storage area a further three miles up the western channel - - does anyone know where that was? Published 18 January 1975.
Glad to see they are at least wearing gloves.
