The Taumarunui Art Group was formerly the Taumarunui Art Society and most recently now includes the "Twin Rivers Gallery " a community Gallery and studio which holds regular weekend workshops with the aim of fostering Arts and Crafts in the community. We are a group of people in Taumarunui and surrounding Ruapehu area who practice or have an interest in the visual arts. The Gallery is unique i

n offering artists the opportunity to exhibit their work with no commission instead requiring artists to pay a flat fee of $10 per week in exchange for display space. Terms and Conditions for Display and Sale of Art or Craft Work

Thank you offering your artwork for us to display and sell on your behalf in our Gallery.

1. Artworks are displayed at the discretion of a panel of committee members. The panel decides, which artworks are to be displayed, where they will be placed in the gallery and how long they will remain on display. The panel may, retire some works for a period or look at alternatives to keep the display fresh and attractive for the public.

2. All care will be taken of your work but we are unable to accept responsibility in the event of damage or loss. It is up to each individual to insure their work if required.

3. If you are submitting artwork from outside the immediate area and require us to return it to you, packaging and shipping costs will apply at your expense.

4. We require artists to commit to an initial payment period of three months for displaying their work during which time works can be rotated in accordance with gallery conditions. Fees are to be paid four weeks in advance. Current schedule of fees for use of display space

“Paul & Idas’ Weird & Wonderful Exhibition” from 20 August til 3 September at Twin Rivers Community Art Gallery, Taumarunui.

Entries now open! Get your art in by Monday 17 August. No cost to enter, all are welcome!

All work must be ready to hang or display and labeled with your name, title, price, contact phone and email.

This is a community exhibition, a great chance for any local creatives to display their artwork and get involved with the art community. We invite you all to let your imagination run wild and try creating something new and fantastical. Weird, wonderful, whimsical, wacky, absurd, ridiculous, strange, eccentric…

We welcome entries in any medium (drawing, photography, papier-mâché, quilting, fibre art etc), as long as they are for sale. Artists, students, kids and collaborative groups are welcome to enter one or more pieces.

There is no cost to enter but Twin Rivers Gallery will take 25% commission from any works sold, which goes to help keep the gallery open. The committee reserves the final decision on accepting and displaying work. Enquiries to [email protected].

The Ruapehu Art Advisory Group has unveiled a striking new dinosaur sculpture by award-winning Taumarunui artist James Cannon at the Taumarunui Library.

The sculpture is the first artwork to be displayed as part of a new initiative that opens Council spaces to local artists, giving them greater opportunities to showcase their work.

A well-known Ruapehu artist, Cannon has received recognition at both the Waimarino Art Awards and the Ruapehu Art Awards.

He spent more than 200 hours creating the sculpture, which is made entirely from found and recycled materials, reflecting his commitment to sustainability and creative reuse.

Mayor Weston Kirton said he was delighted to see Council providing opportunities for local artists and that it was fitting for James Cannon to be the first artist to exhibit under the new initiative.

"This installation shows the value of creating visible public spaces where local artists can share their talent with the community," said Mayor Kirton.

The sculpture will remain on display at the Taumarunui Library until 25 September before being entered into the 2026 Waimarino Art Awards.

Council representative on the Art Advisory Group, Councillor John Chapman, said residents in the south of the district would also have the opportunity to see the sculpture when it is exhibited at the Waimarino Art Awards at the Raetihi Theatre from 26 September to 2 October, alongside works by many other talented local artists.

"Supporting and promoting local artists by making Council spaces available for exhibitions is one of the Art Advisory Group's key objectives.

This is exactly the kind of creative energy we want to encourage across the district," said Cr Chapman.
