A little quiet on socials lately but for good reason. I have been out exploring and creating new work, including this wide angle scene from the Maniototo Plains. I am also looking forward to opening the gallery specially over King’s Birthday weekend. The gallery will be open from 10am – 2.30pm on Saturday 30 May, so if you are out and about please feel free to call in for a browse, a catch up, or simply to enjoy a quiet moment surrounded by art.

Thank you so much to everyone for the lovely birthday messages, calls and kind wishes on Tuesday. I really appreciated every one of them. I had such a wonderful day spent with family, and one of the highlights was lunch at the Vulcan Hotel with the fires roaring while a classic Central Otago hoar frost sat outside. And then there was this incredible sweet treat. Feeling very grateful for the people around me and for another year ahead.

As the seasons shift here in Central Otago, the gallery doors are now closed for winter. This is a quieter time of year for me, spent out in the Maniototo landscape creating new work and gathering the ideas. While the gallery is closed, you are always welcome to visit by arrangement. If you are travelling through Ranfurly, feel free to call or text 021 989 424 - I am often nearby and happy to open if I can. The gallery will reopen in spring, with new work to follow soon after. Gallery Hours – ANZAC Weekend and Final Week of the Season
If you are planning a visit over the long weekend, the gallery will be open as follows:

Saturday 25 April Closed (ANZAC Day)
Sunday 26 April 10.00am – 3.00pm
Monday 27 April 10.00am – 3.00pm
Tuesday 28 April 9.30am – 3.30pm
Wednesday 29 April 9.30am – 3.30pm
Thursday 30 April Closed for the season
As we move into the final days before the gallery’s winter pause, this is a lovely time to visit and view the current collection. My image for this post is quiet nod to the season here in Central Otago, honouring both the animal and the landscape it belongs to.

MONDAY 20 APRIL - The gallery will be closed and back open for Tuesday from 9.30 -3.30. My image for this post is from a few years ago but I do enjoy the stark simplicity of "Telegraph Poles at Hyde"

Passing through Ranfurly and keen to visit the gallery? I am open Monday, Wednesday to Friday 9.30am–3.30pm and Saturday 10am–3pm. As a one-person gallery, I am often here outside those hours as well.

If the door is open, please come in. If it is not, I am usually nearby, so feel free to call or text me on 021 989 424 and I will happily open up if I can. The gallery takes a seasonal pause over winter while I focus on creating new work and then reopening again in spring with fresh pieces on the walls.

Meet our 2026 Judging Panel ... Introducing Janyne Fletcher

Janyne Fletcher is a landscape and fine art photographer based in Ranfurly, a small rural town in Central Otago, New Zealand. She works from her workshop and gallery on the main street, where she edits, prints and frames all of her own work as part of her creative process. Janyne draws inspiration from the distinctive character of Central Otago, exploring both its dramatic landscapes and its quieter, more subtle moods. Rather than simply documenting the environment, she uses photography as a creative medium, working with colour, shape, texture and pattern to create images that are thoughtful, balanced and visually engaging.

Janyne is a Grand Master with one bar of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP). She was named NZIPP Landscape Photographer of the Year in 2019 and NZIPP Landscape (Open) Photographer of the Year in 2022, 2023 and 2024. She has also received international recognition, including AIPP Overseas Photographer of the Year and International Creative Photographer of the Year at the Australian Photographic Prize. As an Ilford Master, she enjoys sharing her passion for photography and printing. When judging, Janyne looks for images that are original, well crafted and visually exciting.

Otago Anniversary Weekend! Are you heading to the Maniototo to relax, join together with friends and whanau and enjoy our special provincial holiday? There is plenty going on in Ranfurly and my gallery will be open for the weekend. Saturday - Monday 10.00am - 3.00pm. My limited edition print "Encroaching Land - West Eweburn Dam" will be on display in the gallery but can be found on my website too.

We are into the last few days of Familiar Ground. It has been a pleasure sharing this body of work, seeing pieces head off to new homes and having great conversations in the gallery.
