It was a real privilege to photograph Butch Jenkins’ 50th Anniversary with the Pauanui Volunteer Fire Brigade. For those who know Butch, you’ll understand why I smiled the first time I met him — he’s one of the few people in Pauanui who make me feel tall.

It was a fantastic night, full of stories, laughs, and well‑earned recognition. Congratulations, Butch — fifty years of service is an incredible achievement, and you’ve done Pauanui proud.

I had a small job for Council today, capturing drone footage of the upgraded Pauanui skate park. While I was there, I also grabbed a great shot of Bevan riding his board — no foil this time, just pure balance and style.

“A twisted relic, weather‑worn — dreaming still of Bannockburn”

The twisted old trunk stands like a weather‑worn storyteller, its grain shaped by years of Otago wind and sun. Behind it, the quiet stone building settles into the land as if it has always belonged there. Together they hold the stillness of Bannockburn — a place where time turns slowly, and the landscape remembers every season that’s passed.

'Capturing a Foggy Sun'

This image is from ’23, taken through a beachfront tree on a morning when the fog was so dense the beach almost disappeared. The sun was just lifting through the haze, creating that perfect diffused light photographers dream about.

Moments like this don’t last long — the fog shifts, the light changes, and the whole scene transforms. Glad I was there at the right second to catch it.

'MoonVen'

Isn’t our solar system incredible!!! Last night the Moon and Venus lined up so close together that it felt like the sky was putting on a private show. I couldn’t resist capturing the moment — that soft glow, the perfect alignment, and the quiet beauty you only get when you’re out under a clear night.

Shots like this remind me why I love photographing the night sky. There’s something magical about seeing our neighbouring worlds hanging right above us.

'Rain on the Aldermans'

Some scenes don’t just appear — they arrive.
This was one of those moments. From the Whenuakite Kiwi Zone viewpoint, a curtain of rain swept across the Aldermans and turned the ocean into a stage. The islands faded into mist, the horizon dissolved, and the whole world felt suspended between storm and stillness.
A fleeting moment… caught before it vanished.
