Superbike Racing at Manfeild Racing Circuit, Feilding Nov 1992. Not all the photos taken by the Hawera Star photographer were taken within our district. One of the photographers must have been a big fan of racing as there is a fair collection of racing photographs including speedway and motorcycle racing, much of which was never published. This photo includes many international motorcycle racers of the time. Some have been named as Fabrizio Pirovano, Malcolm Campbell, Rob Phyllis, Doug Polen, Fred Merkel. Fred Merkel is the long-haired racer to the right otherwise the others need better identification. Feel free to comment! (Reference: P735)

It is wonderful that the Feaver Photographic Collection is being digitised! We have visited the collection in Puke Ariki's archive and it contains such a valuable insight into the history of Opunake and surrounding areas.
