The background story of how and why Haven Designs NZ began...

Designing - Creating and Expressing has been with me from the beginning....as a child I drew, cut, glued, sewed, bonded and constructed objects of beauty (in my eyes) using 'bits and bobs' that I had foraged, found, and squirrelled and stored until I knew their purpose. However a career using my creativity was never chased..."how could

I possibly decide just one?"...I wanted to be a jeweller, a painter, an architect, and photographer, a hair dresser, an interior decorator, a fashion designer and a garden landscape designer. Fast forward to 2020....I was 43 years old and I had spent the last 25 years in Retail Management tiptoeing my way through all that I had wanted: designed jewellery, opened a designer clothing store, worked in a garden centre, dabbled in hairdressing, sold a painting, managed a homewares and furniture store that offered home staging as a service....and I had planned, designed and executed the renovations of our family home. I started thinking of all the New Zealanders living abroad, and I knew that no matter where they were....New Zealand would always hold a special place in their heart. I also knew, based on my time living in the USA, that each time they met someone new they would be greeted and treated fondly because NZ had a reputation around the world for our kindness, freedom and a love of nature. And so came the birth of Haven Designs NZ...

NZ has many icons: the Kiwi, the rugby ball, All Blacks, the Koru, the bumble bee toy, the Silver Fern, the Pohutukawa, Jandals, Kiwi Fruit, and of course our sheep. However more often that not, these images are depicted as a whimsical, colourful illustration....and whilst I adore every one of them, I saw an opportunity to develop a range of products with a touch of elegance and be able to blend in to any backdrop., whilst still maintaining the minimalist imagery. And it all began with the 'Tui Flight Path'....a symbol of flight, freedom, and a representation of all the Kiwis living abroad around the world and the journey they are on.
