Frank Coffin volunteered at the rugby museum nearly every week for nearly twenty years. He always had a joke prepared and loved nothing more than chatting away with tourists. He never forgot his Welsh roots and loved to hoist a Welsh flag over the New Zealand Rugby Museum. RIP Frank, 25 Feb 1936 - 22 April 2026. Our thoughts are with your family.

All Blacks captain Ron Elvidge put his body on the line for the team in 1950. In the third Test against the Lions on Athletic Park he went off injured with a gash to his head and collar bone. With no replacements allowed the All Blacks were already reduced to 14 after prop Johnny Simpson had injured his knee. Elvidge returned to the field as an extra fullback, with one arm barely able to be used. He found himself on the wing in an attacking movement and dived over a Lions player for a try that brought New Zealand back into the game. Later in the second half Bob Scott kicked a penalty resulting in a win to New Zealand 6-3. Ron Elvidge never played for New Zealand again. Elvidge was a Doctor by profession and lived until the age of 96, passing away in 2019.

Who remembers this? πŸ˜‚

At a whopping 64cm wide and 82cm high, the 1996 Tri Nations trophy was mistakenly made too large, giving the Bledisloe Cup a run for its money. Its use was discontinued after the first year and it now resides at NZR headquarters.
