This Saturday 5pm at the Waiheke Island Community Cinema Frances Hodgkins, 'Anything but a Still Life' is one three art films playing as part of Open Studios Waiheke coming up over Kings Birthday long weekend.
These films also celebrate Waiheke artists. Come along and see artistic talent on screen yourself!

Frances Hodgkins: Anything but a Still Life celebrates one of New Zealand’s most influential painters, tracing her journey from Aotearoa to the centre of European modernism.
This vivid documentary traces the life and art of trailblazing New Zealand modernist Frances Hodgkins, following her journeys across Europe and home, and exploring how her restless vision, bold colour and uncompromising independence continue to inspire contemporary artists and designers in Aotearoa today.

Sunday 31 May: 7:30pm

Kazu Nakagawa – 'Knowing' provides a meditative look at an artist whose practice is deeply rooted in material, landscape and attentive craft. Directed by Brigitte Valentine Quick.

Denis O’Connor – Mindspaces: The Artist’s Studio travels through the studios of Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud and O’Connor himself, weaving personal history with artistic inquiry.

Opening this Friday at 6pm, see you here!

‘web.. wept’ is an exhibition that invites viewers to slow down and consider how grief moves through their own lives. ‘web.. wept’ asks: What remains when a loved one disappears without warning? How do we navigate this absence on an island - as artists - as women? And what new threads are spun through shared sorrow in community?

United by the motu of Waiheke and the deep rupture of losing a parent, three women artists - Bella Christine Hessell, Kiva Harrison-Hughes, and Nââwie Tutugoro - weave a collective elegy across mediums.

Congratulations again to Torri Stewart, winner of the Church Bay People's Choice Prize.

Torri's work The Basket — woven from dried bull kelp and h**p twine — captured the hearts of our visitors and we can see why. A beautiful meditation on the ocean and our connection to the natural world.

The $1,500 prize is generously donated by our wonderful Gallery Patrons. Thank you for making moments like this possible.
