We have had such an huge intrest in our 2026 exhibition that we have had the privilege of extending our exhibition until the 18th of September!

If you haven't been down to Gover St Gallery to have a look, head on down and take a look at the amazing work our potters have put out.

Meet the Makers Number 25: Kathryn Gates

I have been a potter for over 30 years and first connected with clay whilst attending the Community Arts Centre in Invercargill. I find the medium of clay a very tactile and responsive material and channel my creative energy into mainly developing forms on the wheel, using both stoneware and porcelain clay. I like to decorate my work using Chinese style glazes and enjoy experimenting with ash, copper and barium and love the energy and spontaneity the glazes achieve through the firing process. My work is reduction fired in a gas kiln to a temperature between 1280C and 1300C degrees, which creates a variety of effects and colours. Over the years I have been a finalist in several National Exhibitions and have been presented with Merit Awards and a Supreme Award for some of my exhibits.

Meet the Makers Number 24: Berme Jordaan

My love of pottery came from watching the sunrise at the beach with a cup of coffee watching the painting of the sky and waves. It is a moment of quiet and stillness before the world wakes up. I wanted to create functional but beautiful pieces that could be used every single day and make those little moments a bit more intentional. Not just a cup of coffee but a moment to slow down and really see the beauty. Every piece is unique and different in their own way. I’m always amazed how something so beautiful was once just mud, part of the earth. It makes me think of how when God created man he took the earth, the clay and breathed life into it. The ultimate potter with the most intentional design. Including you reading this, you are intentional, valuable and different to anyone else. My hope is that the pieces I create can be part of the little moments even in the everyday. A reminder to create a moment that is intentional and beautiful. A moment of quiet in the noise of this world.

Meet the Makers Number 23: Amy Dixion

I have a background in Fine Arts but put a pause on being creative and making art and followed a career in Addiction Counselling. Since then, I have become a Mum and in recent years learnt how to use the wheel, my first real introduction to the medium of clay.
I have since then started playing around with hand building and have created Melted Bowl, a functional sculpture that can also be used as a charcuterie board.

Meet the Makers Number 22: Vickie Dixion

Vickie Dixon is a mixed-media artist whose work explores the relationship between colour, texture, and form.
As a mosaic artist she did a hand-building ceramic course in 2024 in order to create a specific piece for a mosaic project, and now enjoys the process of working with clay and turning her ceramic creative visions into realities, often within a mosaic setting. Through her practice, Vickie seeks to create art that evokes curiosity, joy, and a lasting emotional connection.

Meet the Makers Number 21: Lynda J Ho**er

I am Taranaki proud, born and bred and have been a potter now for over 40 years. After many years as a hobby potter, I decided to take the plunge and make this my full-time business as creating is my passion! I prefer hand-building work over the wheel, and I work in a variety of clays ranging from terra cotta earthenware, raku and pit fired clays through to white stoneware. I like textural pieces. I am established with my own tried and tested glaze recipes. I have an electric kiln, and fire to different temperatures ranging from 950°C to 1260°C. I have an outdoor gas fired RAKU kiln and a fire barrel kiln that is wood/sawdust fueled. I am a longstanding member of the New Plymouth Potters Club Inc and am also a member of Ceramics NZ. I love working with businesses to create unique niche products. My other passions in life include friends, gardening, animals, craft and lifestyle! I set up and run the local charity Plants for ParaFed Taranaki, saving old fashioned/rare plant varieties. I am also actively involved with other local charitable projects involving Plunket and Age Concern. I have a professional working background in banking/business but have chosen a more creative lifestyle.

Meet the Makers Number 20: Angela Tee

I have been a member of the New Plymouth Pottery Club since late 2005. In 2008 I won the Novice Exhibitor Award with a hand built tall vase. I really enjoy hand building – I like the diversity and the fact that no piece is the same that you get with hand building.
I enjoy using bright and contrasting colours for glazing – mostly using the Abbots cone 6 glazes.
I enjoy doing a mixture of functional and ornamental pieces, some of my favourite things to do are ornamental castles and sunflower plates and wall hearts.

Meet the Makers Number 19: Tiff Francesco

Hi, I'm Tiff from TF Ceramics, based in Taranaki, and I've been making ceramics for the last couple of years. Most of what I make is me trying to get back to something I did last time and can never quite repeat. It's an unpredictable thing to make, and that's the part I like - more often than not, what I end up happiest with is the opposite of what I was aiming for. Pottery's my creative outlet more than anything. I like making things, and it keeps me sane.
