Warren (Wozz) Houston joins us as a guest artist this month with a collection of landscapes, brush painted in acrylics, on various surfaces which reflect his love of creating realist artworks that show his passion for the New Zealand landscape.
Warren was born in 1947 in Wanganui, educated in Hawera, and was an aircraft engineer in the RNZAF during the 60s.
In the 1970s, while working in Hamilton building aircraft, he started airbrushing hot rods, motorbikes, helmets etc. In the 50 years since, he has developed into one of New Zealand’s leading airbrush artists.
In 2012 he was commissioned to airbrush the artwork on the hulls on the Emirates Team New Zealand black catamaran to race in San Francisco. Soon after that he was commissioned to paint a large private wall mural and since then he has completed many private and public murals - some as large as 25m x 7m.
As well as custom painting and murals, Warren is a creator of photo-realistic portraits and landscapes and he nowadays creates his artworks and commissions from his studio in Motueka.
This exhibition portrays the current position on his art journey, a collection of New Zealand landscapes, brush painted in acrylics, on various surfaces, with not an airbrush involved. His art is a reflection of his creative spirit.
