And that’s a wrap on Nelson Clay Week 2026! 🧡

What an extraordinary week it’s been.

As relatively new custodians of Quiet Dog Gallery, this has been a particularly special week for us. We’ve loved the conversations, the connections, the laughter and the sheer joy of being surrounded by so much extraordinary creativity.

A huge thank you to the wonderful Nelson Clay Week team for making it all happen. What an incredible gift to our creative community.

To the artists who trust us with their beautiful work, we’re enormously grateful. It’s a privilege to share what you create.

And to everyone who visited, joined us for Aaron Scythe’s MINO ME opening, discovered something new, took a piece home or simply popped in for a chat — thank you. You’ve made this week one to remember.

We’re feeling very lucky to be part of this vibrant creative community in Whakatū Nelson.

And the good news? The ceramics aren’t going anywhere just yet. There’s still plenty of beautiful work to discover at Quiet Dog. ✨

New at Quiet Dog — Paul Maseyk.

We’re very pleased to welcome a collection of Paul Maseyk’s wonderfully irreverent mugs and tumblers to the gallery.

Playful, provocative and unmistakably Paul. Come and take a look while you’re out and about for Nelson Clay Week.

What a night! 🩷

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to Quiet Dog last night to celebrate MINO ME with Aaron Scythe. It was wonderful to see the gallery absolutely humming and overflowing out the door!

Thank you Aaron for trusting us with this very special collection, and to Hiwa and the Nelson Clay Week crew for bringing so much clay goodness to Whakatū.

Alongside MINO ME, we’re thrilled to have the gallery bursting with stunning work from our other ceramic artists too.

We loved having you all here. 🩷

MINO ME continues at Quiet Dog throughout Nelson Clay Week.

A little Clay Week goodness staying behind at Quiet Dog.

It was such a pleasure to meet visiting American potter Levi Yastrow during Nelson Clay Week and even better that he’s left us a beautiful collection of his wood-fired reduction vessels.

The surfaces are extraordinary — smoky, earthy and richly textured, with the most exquisite metallic sheen. Photographs really don’t do them justice.

Come in and see them in the (clay) flesh!

A little more of what’s coming… 👀

Another sneak peek at some of the new work Aaron Scythe is sending our way for MINO ME, his exhibition at Quiet Dog during Nelson Clay Week.

After 25 years working in the Mino tradition, Aaron’s work is unmistakably his own — richly layered, playful, imperfect and full of character.

Coming to Quiet Dog for Nelson Clay Week — Aaron Scythe: MINO ME.

Aaron Scythe has spent 25 years working in the Mino tradition of ceramics, bringing together a deep connection to Japanese ceramic practice with the marks, imagery and preoccupations of contemporary life.

Aaron describes what sits behind his making simply:

“What I make I feel comes from me …
Fingerprints, imperfect forms, distortion, soul.
A human expression.”

For MINO ME, new ceramics and limited-edition prints are making their way to Quiet Dog for Nelson Clay Week.

And we’re very pleased that Aaron will be joining us in the gallery for the opening.
