Curator Position – part time
Mercer Art and History Museum is looking for a new curator. The Mercer Art and History Museum holds a range of local history and memorabilia specific to the history of Mercer and the Waikato River.
We’re looking for someone who is a true people person, able to communicate with a range of people and confidently share the history of our neighbourhood.
From general housekeeping through to maintenance of exhibits and curation of new installations, this role will suit someone who is interested in local history and keen to learn more.
The position includes:
• Opening and closing the museum and ensuring it is secure
• Greeting visitors and making them welcome
• Explaining exhibitions and discussing installations
• Exhibit curation and upkeep
• Social media posts and video operation
• Cleaning and exterior maintenance
An opportunity to also use your initiative and enthusiasm to come up with new ideas from time to time, and promote the museum, exhibitions and local events.
Full training will be given along with a job description.
This is a paid part time position to cover the museum open hours. Those are
Friday and Saturday 10 am to 2 pm and at other times for group bookings.
