On this day | 19 June 1940, WWII arrived in New Zealand with a bang when a German mine sank the trans-Pacific liner Niagara off our coast -- she lies there to this day. Here pictured on a postcard sent to "Miss B" from J.F.D. who worked as a steward aboard the ship (dated 11/7/1916). We tell this story (and about the dives for gold thereafter) inside our museum. Come and learn our stories. Museum open 10am-4pm weekends, 10am-2pm weekdays (May-Aug).
