What a wonderful opening!

Art, w**e, conversation and a fabulous gathering of friends, artists and art lovers as we celebrated the opening of New Light at Little Black Gallery yesterday.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to our wonderful artists who have brought so much colour, creativity and energy to this exhibition.

We're delighted that five paintings and a beautiful wooden box have already found new homes!

Continuing a tradition from our last two exhibitions, as works sell, our artists will be bringing in new pieces from next week. This means New Light will continue to evolve, with fresh discoveries and new works to enjoy throughout the exhibition.

The celebrations continue this Labour Weekend as part of Creative Discoveries. Come and explore the exhibition, wander through the gardens and enjoy a little creative inspiration.

We'd love to see you!

Meet the Artist | Janette Walker

A New Dawn Blossoms

Soft, luminous and beautifully delicate, Janette Walker's floral photography captures the quiet magic of nature in a wonderfully painterly way.

Originally from Lancashire, England, Janette developed her love of photography at an early age, inspired by her mother's passion for capturing the world through a lens.

After moving to New Zealand, she studied professional photography, initially exploring landscapes before discovering her particular love of flowers and macro photography.

Her work reveals the intricate beauty of nature, transforming familiar blooms into dreamy compositions filled with colour, light and atmosphere.

A New Dawn Blossoms, presented as a photographic artwork on metal, is a beautiful addition to our NEW LIGHT exhibition.

Join us for the opening
Thursday 22 October, from 4pm

Meet the Artist | Erika Wasner

The extraordinary colours, movement and energy of the ocean come alive in the work of Kerikeri artist Erika Wasner.

A marine biologist, sailor and wilderness guide, Erika has spent much of her life exploring the natural world, and water remains at the heart of her creative practice.

Working with acrylics, resin and natural materials, she captures the shifting rhythms of waves, currents and coastlines, creating richly textured works that invite you to lose yourself in the beauty of the sea.

We're delighted to be featuring Erika's work in NEW LIGHT, our spring exhibition at Little Black Gallery.

Join us for the opening
Thursday 22 October, from 4pm

Enjoy an afternoon of art, w**e, music and conversation, and take a wander through our beautiful spring gardens.

The Poetry of Everyday Things | Amy Whyte

A vase of flowers, a familiar table, the gentle play of light. In Amy Whyte's paintings, everyday objects become something quietly extraordinary.

Working primarily in ink and oil paint, Amy explores the relationship between memory, place and the present. Her intimate domestic scenes invite us to pause and discover the beauty, emotion and stories held within seemingly ordinary moments.

Her painting In Light of the Flowers captures this beautifully, with its soft, muted palette, delicate flowers and subtle layers of texture.

We're delighted to welcome Amy's work to New Light at Little Black Gallery.

Little Things, Beautifully Made

Sometimes the loveliest gifts are the simplest. Something handmade, thoughtfully chosen and a little different.

These delicate bud vases by Briar Monro are a beautiful example. Just a few spring blossoms are all they need.

With Christmas beginning to appear on the horizon, it's a lovely time to wander into Little Black Gallery and discover something special. Alongside our artworks, you'll find ceramics, jewellery and other beautiful pieces by talented New Zealand artists and makers.

Whether you're looking for a gift or simply something to enjoy in your own home, there's always something new to discover.

We'd love to see you.

Imagined Landscapes, Rediscovered Passions | Max Daillecourt

Originally from Zimbabwe, Max Daillecourt has called Kerikeri home for the past 23 years.

Retirement has given Max the opportunity to return to painting, rediscovering a creative passion through expressive acrylic works inspired by impressionism.

His paintings explore imagined gardens, landscapes and still life, bringing together colour, atmosphere and a sense of possibility.

We're delighted to include Max's work in New Light, our upcoming exhibition at Little Black Gallery.

CLOUD FORMATIONS | LAURA ALLEN

A glimpse of Laura Elizabeth Allen, a relatively new artist to Little Black Gallery and one of the artists joining us for New Light.

Laura works across a range of creative disciplines, with ceramics forming an important part of her practice. Working in porcelain and stoneware, she creates pieces that are distinctive, tactile and often unexpected.

For New Light, Laura is exhibiting a series of porcelain cloud forms. Organic and almost otherworldly, they transform something fleeting and weightless into something solid and sculptural.

We’re sharing just one today, a small glimpse of the intriguing collection that will be arriving in the gallery for New Light.

STORIES IN LAYERS | WENDY GALBRAITH

A glimpse of Wendy Galbraith, one of the artists joining us for New Light.

Wendy’s semi-abstract paintings are built through layers of acrylic, pattern, shape and colour, with her concern for the environment often finding its way into the work.

Rather than simply depicting a landscape, Wendy creates her own story as she paints, leaving space for us to find our own connections within it.

In this new work for New Light, fields of blue, green and ochre shift across the canvas, with glimpses of trees, leaves and landscape emerging between the lines and layers.

We’re delighted to be exhibiting Wendy’s work again at Little Black Gallery.

LET THE WOOD SPEAK | ALAN MULLER

A glimpse of Alan Muller, one of the artists joining us for New Light.

Alan came to woodturning later in life, when retirement finally gave him the freedom to explore a lifelong interest in working with wood. Entirely self-taught, what began as a hobby soon became a passion.

At the heart of Alan’s work is the timber itself. Rather than disguising its natural character, his thoughtful, precise approach allows the grain, form and individuality of each piece to become part of the work.

This beautiful charcuterie tray is our first glimpse of Alan’s work for New Light. Functional, tactile and made to be used, it is also a lovely example of what happens when craftsmanship and the natural beauty of wood come together.
