Anne Breymann incredible two in one/reversible ‘Selkie’ is available to view in the gallery or online.
On our website Anne has created a careful stop motion animation showing the transformation between woman and seal, it’s also accessible in the gallery via a helpful QR code (no - I’m not that tech savvy, Anne kindly provided the code and link, I just had to print it (and swear at the printer)).

It’s the little details that at first glance often get overlooked but with time you realise make a piece of art so special.
Anne Breymann ‘Selkie’ is the perfect example of that with the seal portion showcasing deep soulful eyes, carefully stitched and textured flippers, layers of wash, pencil and paint subtle adding colour and tone.

Selkies are mythological shapeshifters. They live as seals in the sea, and are able to transform into humans on land by taking off their sealskin.

This reversible art doll by can be turned around and transformed from a woman into a seal and the other way around. She has two wire loops on her back and can be displayed on a wall either side.

Like all of Anne’s creatures she is created with a nostalgic aged look, imperfections and stains are intentional.

In a world where we are continuously being told bigger is better, and in a time where AI agents are taking the place of humans, Quirky Fox is following its own path.

We are never going to be the biggest or most famous gallery. We are located in a country of just over five million people. We can not compete with the budget and reach of some of the bigger galleries.

Our team is small, just me and the artists I work with.

But this gives us the chance to give you a more curated, more intimate, more connected experiences.

Join us as we slow down the scroll and spend more time building a relationship between you, the artists we work with and the art they create in our new artist spotlight experience.

Interesting in learning more about- head over to our latest blog article: https://quirkyfox.co.nz/blogs/news/why-we-ll-never-be-a-big-gallery-and-why-that-s-the-point (or go through our link in the bio).
