We've just finished setting up Marianne Coady's exhibition - A Year in Pātea! what a wonderful collection it is!

Marianne moved to Pātea just over three years ago from Tropical North Queensland. Over the past twelve months, she's been creating artworks inspired by her new hometown, its beautiful surroundings, famous winds and colourful characters.

And she's certainly brought plenty of imagination and humour into it!

Pātea's strong winds have inspired "flying nuns" and "Ample Swimmers", because on a particularly windy day, you never know what might end up in the air!

Her love of bats has led to some delightful ceramic creations, including a Gothic Christmas tree decorated with bats.

You'll also discover ceramic KiwiSaver and fish tank money boxes, beautiful eco-dyed silk, and a stunning handmade textile dress inspired by the spirit of Taranaki's midwinter nights.

With ceramics, eco-printed textiles and encaustic artworks, there's so much to explore. Each piece tells a little story about Pātea and the wider Taranaki region, seen through the eyes of someone who has fallen in love with the place.

As Marianne puts it, "Patea is a beautiful little town peopled by some fabulously unconventional folk. I love living in Patea."

Congratulations to all the winners!
A big thank you to all 26 participating artists, Eltham Lions, our visitors and everyone who helped make it such a special exhibition.

What a wonderful opening night for Art for Awareness exhibition!

Around 40 people joined us tonight, including participating artists, their friends and families, Lions members, media guests and members of the wider community.

It was lovely to see so many people taking time to look through the exhibition, talk with the artists and hear some of the stories behind the works. Some visitors also cast their vote for their favourite piece in the People’s Choice Award.

Our youngest artist, Arabella Hayward, who came along with her family. Her work "In Loving Memory" is a collage of memories of her Granny and adds a very personal and heartfelt voice to the exhibition.

A huge thank you to Eltham Lions Club for organising the event, to all of the artists who contributed their work, and to everyone who came along and supported the opening.

It really feels like a win all round, bringing people into the Gallery, giving local creativity a place to be seen, bringing the community together, and raising funds for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

The exhibition runs until 24 October, so if you missed tonight, there is still plenty of time to come in and see it for yourself.

A little glimpse of Art for Awareness 2026!

The exhibition is now coming together at The Village Gallery, with 26 very different works. This short video is just a quick preview, come in and see the full works for yourself.

Art for Awareness exhibition is coming to The Village Gallery!

We’re getting ready for a wonderful community exhibition, organised by Eltham Lions Club South Taranaki, supporting Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, with painting, sculpture, wearable art, pottery, mixed media and more.

There’s still time to take part.
You don’t need to be an experienced artist, everyone is welcome to have a go.

By entering, you can:
- exhibit your work at The Village Gallery
- offer your work for sale
- choose how much of the sale you’d like to donate to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ
- have the chance to win one of several exhibition awards
- share your creativity with the community while supporting a great cause

Aithnia Batchelor, our artist in the exhibition space for this month, will be in the Gallery all day today, Saturday 12 September
Grab this opportunity to pop in and meet Aithnia and have a talk about her methods and processes to create these colourful and quirky works of art. Aithnia has brought in some new pieces that she has recently created.; lovely paintings on small pieces of driftwood. These are ideal mementos or gift items.
