Join us in celebrating the opening of the exhibition “Clive Humphreys: All in All”, Friday 16 January, 5:30–7:00pm. The exhibition runs through 28 February, opening hours Wednesday–Friday, 11am–5pm; Saturday 11am–2pm, at RDS Gallery, 6 Castle Street, Dunedin. All art lovers welcome.

ALL IN ALL
Paintings by Clive Humphreys,Whakanewha, Waiheke Island

Whakanewha is a forested reserve stretching from the edges of Rocky Bay coast to South of Onetangi. A literal translation of Whakanewha means to shade the eyes from the setting sun. This ancient Māori name is apt, unspoken yet understood by anyone meandering the tracks within this forested whenua bathed in the rays of a setting sun. A place of tranquillity and natural beauty, a place of reflection. Light plays through the canopy shadows
and energies emerge from a distant past reflecting the long passage of time and whakapapa. This is aplace for contemplation.

Humphreys views landscape painting in the digital age as equally relevant as it was to artists a hundred years earlier. He argues that genre is less about celebrity or romanticising the environment, but rather awareness of its importance through observation.
