A collection of fierce and unflinching rings from Wellington based jeweller Nikkie Gibson, plus as a delightful contrast, one of her "ponder" rings. I love the way the heavily textured rings almost dare you to interact with them, they are so spiky, yet the ponder ring is designed with the express purpose of being a played with as the two slender rings move about the wider band. A lovely peep into the the many forms Nikkie's expression takes. Pop in and see which ring feels most at home on your hand, and see more of Nikkie's work on our website

Who all remembers the unnerving sensation of paper plane heading straight for your eye? Happily these cast glass paper planes from Tom Barter stay where they are put, and are just so beautiful at the same time. Securely attached to the wall with a screw, these convey a lovely sense of motion and lightness through their bright colour palette. $175 each.

This gorgeous commission by David McLeod arrived at the gallery this week, a matchstick bangle for a special birthday, replacing the usual oxidised sterling silver burnt end of the matchstick with a bright yellow gold end, to match the yellow gold live match head.

We love having special pieces like this come through the gallery, and this one was too lovely not to share. If you have something you'd like to commission, get in touch, or check out more of David's beautiful matchstick pieces on our website.

Lucia Araoz's latest earrings are jewellery at its most elemental, fine gold and fine silver, fused to create a seamless surface. Shaping the earrings into gentle curls, the silver protects and highlights the precious gold. Pop into the gallery and see how lovely these are in person.

The lovely Kristen, with one of her favourite, pieces, the gorgeous "Vaso" vase by glass artist Matt Hall. The way the colour intensifies from the base to the rim is just delicious, and it's beautiful both as an object in its own right, and as a functional vase.

On this day, two years from now, Dunedin will be one of the best places in the world to see a complete solar eclipse. To say we're excited down here is an understatement, and it might explain why all I see when I pick up this incredible pendant from Greg Smith is the last curve of the sun's light, winking out as the moon passes across it. The vibrancy of the yellow against what is actually a deep blue glass transforms on the other face of the pendant into wisps of colour passing across the darkness. A beautiful study in contrasts. And a lovely use of Greg's collection of glass colour rods, mostly ones which have been hand pulled, resulting in really interesting and unusual colours, like the ones seen here.

We're continuing to resist the cold with this collection of glowing golden jewellery. While gold is the obvious choice, and we adore its richness of colour, it's surprising how many different materials and techniques there are to create these warm tones. From glass, to gemstones, to anodised titanium, there's more than one way to glow golden bright on these grey days.
