Seedling Swap 🌿
12-1pm* this Saturday 17 January 2026

Bring along surplus seeds, seedlings, produce, or stories to swap with other visitors at Blue Oyster!

This event marks the end of Stacking Memory / PŌKĀKĀ by Jessica Covell, an exhibition that remembers and celebrates the native trees that could have once been plentiful in the place Blue Oyster now rests.

Big thanks to .beyondorokonui for providing some native seedlings to start us off.

*Please note: the timing of this event has changed (previously 1-2pm).
We changed it so folks can attend the Emergency Rally for Palestine in The Octagon at 1pm 🇵🇸 The gallery will be closed for the duration of the Rally so staff can attend too. Let’s go together. Long live Palestine!

This is a free event.

A wheelchair ramp is available!
Refreshments are provided at all events.

Our latest exhibition, Stacking Memory / PŌKĀKĀ by Jessica Covell, opens this Saturday 13 December 2025 at Blue Oyster!

Jessica's tufted sculptures, inspired by pōkākā trees, can be touched and rearranged by you, the visitor. They enable tactile reconnection with the historic forest of Bell Hill, before the mauka was beheaded and its body was used to fill in the estuary it overlooked.

The exhibition will run until 17 January 2026.

🌞Please note that the gallery will be closed from 21 December 2025 - 12 January 2026. Stacking Memory / PŌKĀKĀ has been designed to remain accessible during this time! The installation can be viewed (and touched) from Blue Oyster’s street-side window.🌞
