Coromandel Open Studios Arts Tour Coromandel Open Studios Arts Tour - Coromandel Town. Two weekends of Art - 3,4 & 10,11 October 2026 The Coromandel Open Studios is free for visitors.

It’s that time again, when Coromandel’s artists open their studios and hearts to you! For the first two weekends in October our artists open their studios and invite you in. You can download a map of studio locations from our website, or pick up a printed version from ‘The Source’ Coromandel Artists Collective or Hauraki House Gallery. As a visitor you can spend as long as you like at the studios, meet the artists, learn about what inspires them, viewing their pieces and making purchases on the spot. You are afforded a rare glimpse into the artists’ lives. Some artists will be offering demonstrations and opportunities for you to try your hand at printing, painting or sculpting. You'll have a great day out exploring the Coromandel Open Studios, take home a unique work of art as well as have an inspiring and stimulating experience.

Another successful Coromandel Arts Tour has come and gone and we hope all of our visitors had a really enjoyable time. It is now time to thank our wonderful sponsors who willingly step up year after year to ensure that our event goes ahead. Matt along with Daniel Kirsch organised the tour for a numbers of years from 2009 until it was taken on by a committee of artists in around 2017.
Guide books are still available from Coromandel Information Centre for those who would still like to visit studios. Just call the artists to set a time to see their work.

We've got our WINNERS!!
A crew of our artists gathered on Sunday evening for some celebratory refreshments and to share some yarns from the 2026 Coromandel Arts Tour. We also collected up the massive pile of signature hunt cards and sorted out our winners.
Congratulations to Maureen Revell won the $200 art voucher and a $50 Pepper Tree voucher.
And Llew Gray and Tania Mischefski who were our two runners up. They each won a $50 art voucher.
Thank you so much to all our wonderful visitors who came with such enthusiam for the creativity that's happening here in Coromandel. We truly appreciate you all because without you there would be no Arts Tour. We'll catch you next year.

We finished up our artist features over a week ago but there was still one person we needed to share with you - Saskia Riemersma. But couldn't until she got back from her time in Europe (and she arrived back just in time for opening night!).

Saskia is a multitalented mixed media artist and will be based out of Rose Deane's studio along with Rosemarie Murphy at 860 Tiki Road.

"In my free time in between milking, I started with sculpture in Matamata in 1992. Later I picked up painting and pastel painting. In early 2000 I attended life drawing classes with charcoal for more than 2 years. Lately I have been painting with oils. And at the moment portrait drawing has my attention. Scenery in oils is still a favourite!"

The first weekend of The Coromandel Arts Tour was an absolute blast with lots of interesting and interested visitors from far and wide along with forty one happy artists in their studios. We are doing it all again this weekend giving visitors the unique chance to experience Coromandel art at its best. Start your day at the Arts Tour exhibition at Hauraki House to view at least one piece on display from each participating artist. Then grab a guide book and cruise the studios. In Colville you can take a coffee break at Hereford and a Pickle Cafe and in Coromandel coffee from Weta Cafe is always a treat. You cannot beat Coro Pies for lunch on the run. A cold b**r from our very own craft brewery, Coromandel Town Supply, is available in the main street if you need a rest and a cool down. The studios and the exhibition will be open from 10am until 1pm both days.

After a fantastic opening night and a really busy weekend of studio visits we can now take a breath and prepare for next weekend but there is still plenty of action midweek. Tim Fuller is running clay workshops on Tuesday
and Thursday from 10 t0 12 for three or four people. Call Tim on 021 612 868 to register interest. Paul Cornwell will be demonstrating some painting techniques in the Hauraki House Gallery on Wednesday between 10 and 2 and Pete Sephton will be holding a mini screen printing workshop between 10 and 12. Both Paul and Pete's sessions are designed so that people can come and go as they please so visitors can attend both.
Many artists are willing to accept visitors midweek also. It would be a good idea to ring first using the guide book to choose who you want to see. Studios that will be definitely open some or all of the midweek time include, Pete Sephton's Blind Creek Studio when the sign is out, Gallery 6 every day, Viv Blackler's studio when the flag is out, the old BNZ Bank Thursday and Friday and The Colville cafe group every day from 10 - 2.

Meet the painters, potters, jewellers, printmakers, sculptors, and textile artists who call the Coromandel home, and discover the stories, tools, and processes behind each piece. Watch a work in progress. Ask the questions you’d never get to ask anywhere else.

You are invited to wander at your own pace—map in hand—through studios tucked into hillsides, coastal gardens, and in the heart of Coromandel Town. Take your time browsing original work available to purchase directly from the artists who made it.

Today we feature graphic artist and designer Paul Cornwell who also happens to be a superb painter specialising in portraits which show a high degree of skill ,dedication and sophistication.
" The more I immerse myself in this town, the stronger my impetus to draw and paint becomes. The intriguing faces and places of this place seem to have a grip on me. During the Arts Tour I'll have painting demos happening and some art giveaways - just pop in in put your name in the draw. I look forward to seeing you there."

This year we are thrilled to have SEVEN artists based in Colville - the northern area of the Arts Tour. It's about a 25 minute drive up the beautiful coastline and when you're there you can also have a fantastic coffee or meal at the Hereford 'n' a Pickle cafe and checkout the iconic Colville Store.

Our wonderful Colville creatives are: Peridot Mawson, Beth Pearsall, Nici Greulich, Teuane Tibbo, Greg Taylor, Jodie Kocian, and Jan Kocian.
Peridot, Beth, Nici, and Teuane are all based in the Colville Cafe (rather handily located between Hereford 'n' a Pickle and the Colville Store), and you will spot Greg, Jodie and Jan's studios and Arts Tour flags on the way up the coast.

Help please. Missing pole!
On Friday we put up Arts Tour banners in the main street. We use a long bamboo pole with a cross piece on the end to do this. I know that is hard to believe but it's true Unfortunately we left the pole behind, probably next to the old BNZ Bank, on the footpath and now it is missing. We're hoping that some kind person has put it away safely. Please leave a message or ring me on 027 2424 090 if you know where it is.

As a special treat for our 20th Arts Tour some of the artists are offering midweek mini workshops.
Tim Fuller will be running two sessions on slab building with clay at his home studio on Tiki Road, on Tuesday 6th October and Thursday 8th October from 10 - 12. Each session can accommodate three or four people so book early with Tim on 021 612 868. There will be a small cost to cover materials.
Paul Cornwell will be putting on a portrait underpainting demonstration in Hauraki House Gallery between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 7th October , picking up from last year's demo where he showed how to use a grid to draw a portrait on a large canvas. This is a free and relaxed event where people can come and go as they please.
Pete Sephton will be conducting a hands on screen printing session in his Blind Creek Studio at 23 Colville Road on Wednesday 7th October between 10 and 12. This is suitable for children and adults and people can come and go. Everyone will be able to make a print to take away free. Call Pete on 027 2424 090 for more information.
