Aidan Taira Geraghty and Bri Leone-Rhea Lawrence
Exhibition period: August 29 – 19 October

09 07 25 is an exhibition with artists Bri Leone-Rhea Lawrence and Aidan Taira Geraghty. An auspicious date on which the artists expressed a desire to get to know one another, prior to presenting their work. Their series of photographs stands in as documentation, of ground covered in their recent years, on truth, self-belief, and knowledge systems that are inseparable from their biography. The photographs identify particular strategies to unpack their genealogical connection to their family stories.

The āhua of the exhibition is a warm invitation to sit with their irreconcilable ideas about distance, accountability, inheritance, beauty and boredom.

Thank you to Creative New Zealand Te Manu Ka Tau guest Billy Tang for visiting us in Ōtautahi last week, and for sharing so many insights about your approach to working with community, against and within structures, and ways of rerouting the resources we have access to. Thank you to for their support, and to .aotearoa who this kaupapa was presented in association with. Thanks also to everyone who attended Billy’s lecture and our roundtable discussion–hopefully these are ideas and conversations that might continue.

Call for EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
Critical Laundering: a roundtable discussion with Billy Tang
Friday 1 August, 10am-12pm

We are seeking expressions of interest for Critical Laundering, a roundtable discussion in response to our current exhibition Bootleg with visiting curator Billy Tang.

This discussion will draw on histories of counterfeiting, ideas of censorship and authorship, and parasitic or ad-hoc economics. Participants are invited to be in dialogue with Tang around these topics, thinking about how they might be useful tools for future or recent projects.

This opportunity is for curators, artists and other contemporary arts practitioners based in Ōtautahi. Please email [email protected] with an expression of interest and a brief background to your practice to join this discussion.

Tonight on The Physics Room Contemporary Art Kōrero, we’re lucky to have artist Abigail Aroha Jensen speaking about her work in our current exhibition Bootleg. 👛

This episode is the first of a mini-series called Artist Documents, where we have a conversation with an artist from the programme about points of reference for their practice recently—a place, a song, a particular material, an object.

Tune in at 8pm on .media 96.9 to hear Abigail talk about hair dye, found toys, industrial muka, spiritual walks, and Instagram. 🎀✨🧸🍬

If you miss the live broadcast, you can find the episode on our website, or wherever you listen to your podcasts.
