Join us this Saturday 6 June at 11am

Hear artist Marian Maguire talk about TUDOR HEARTH, her current exhibition which features a new narrative fireplace plus paintings and drawings that respond to the Armada Portrait of Elizabeth I.

Also on show are the (pictured) Odysseus and Penelope fireplaces from 2017, and images from The Enlightenment Project which provide historical context. The interplay between history and mythology is key to Maguire’s approach.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night to celebrate the opening of Marian Maguire’s exhibition ‘Tudor Hearth’ - a major new series which began in 2018 and is now presented in the main gallery alongside earlier works in the side gallery and hallway. Individually, the Tudor works, the 2017 Fireplaces and the Enlightenment Project tells their own stories; together, they interweave to paint a larger picture of the artist’s research and practice.

Last day to see Charrette van Eekelen’s exhibition ‘Acts of Love’

Pictured: ‘Today’s Special’ 2026, NZ wool blanket, velvet, fabrics, paint and thread, 380 x 380mm

Charrette van Eekelen’s paintings are fabrications: scissored, stitched and painted to create persuasive descriptions of objects and space. Colours and textures are found and combined. Freehand embroidery draws lines, paint undulates surfaces. Close inspection reveals silkiness, rough weave, sheen and transparency. Wool and velvet contrast with the openness net and materiality produces the illusion of light and shadow.
