Its time for the Sunday Site Update!

πŸ”§ The Electric Traction Team have been busy checking over & maintaining the system in preparation for the next Electrics running day.

πŸš‚ F 13 Peveril's Smokebox Baffle Plate has been removed for refitting of its seal so that the door can be opened as usual before & after running - so inspections can be completed during the operating year. It's Spark arrestor framing was also test fitted.

πŸšƒ The Tr was on shunt duties as well as doing some yard work over the weekend.

βœ… And finally our External Assessment by the Railway Regulator Waka Kotahi NZTA came back and we were pleased to find 0 recommendations as well as no non-compliances.
This is a great result for our dedicated Operations, Maintenance and Administration Volunteers.

Its time for the Sunday Site Update!

🎫 The Dsa performed stellar service at the Night Market last night, some crew training was also completed helping increase our pool of people who can drive the Dsa for Diesel hauled Carriage Services.

πŸ”§ The Throw Over Points at Ferrymead have had a fastener upgrade by the Way and Works Team.

β˜” Even in the wet we still ran this Ferrymead Alive Fathers Day on Sunday 6th September. A good number of people braved the weather and came for a ride on the Vulcan. Thank you to everyone that came out!

πŸš‚ F 13 Peveril is on its way through its inspections before being certified for use again. We are hoping to have an update soon as to its return to service!

Its time for the Sunday Site Update, this week we have a bit more to share!

πŸ”§ The Caterpillar D343 Engine we purchased from Nelson Railway Society ex their Dsa has arrived for us to have as a spare for the Dsa Locomotive and either overhaul or use as parts for the existing engine.
Thank you to Heavy Diesel Parts & Services (HDPS) for organising its delivery to site!

πŸ”¨ Unfortunately in the recent winds our team have found amongst things damaged, one of the Guards Vans has lost some of its roof material. This has been tarped in the interim until permanent repairs can be funded and applied to it.

πŸ”Œ One of our very long lived & faithful Hitachi 125mm Grinders finally decided it had served its last day with the team.
The Commutator Segments leaving the Armature and becoming colourful confetti when the back was opened up to inspect.
Having done many jobs in restoration it has certainly earned its rest.
Here's hoping our next Hikoki NZ is just as awesome as the one before it!

🎨 Lastly, the second Ferrymead Station Seat has made it back to Ferrymead after its refurbishment coordinated by our member Ken P, the Seats look fantastic and are a real asset to Ferrymead if you decide to hop off the train and take a moment to relax near where the First Public Railway in the country began 163 years ago.

And that's about it for this week!

🎫 Don't forget we are running this coming Saturday for Ferrymead Heritage Park's September Night Market, the Dsa will be hauling the train all evening, and then on Sunday we have Ferrymead Alive where the Vulcan Railcar will be running all day.
Come for a ride and support the railway!
Ticket info in our normal event posting on our page.
Make sure to follow to hear when we are running πŸ™‚

Its time for the Sunday Site Update, this one is shorter than usual as the team have been working on a myriad of things as usual but not many pictures surfaced!

πŸ”¨ The team shunted the Heritage Train out of the shed to allow for some inspections of the Carriage Shed to be conducted.

πŸš‚ F 13 Peveril has more fittings being reinstalled and getting ready for certification and return to service soon.

And that's about it for this week! As said, its a little shorter this week but we hope to have more next week πŸ™‚

Its time for the Sunday Site Update!

πŸš‚ F 13 Peveril is feeling a little shorter, having had its funnel removed for cleaning and painting, it has also had its new spark arrestor template partially fitted to confirm the right angles for the new arrestor, helping keep our line safe.

🎨 The Yc has had more de-rusting and painting.

πŸ”¨ The F Van has had its bolts fitted with its brackets to check for any recessing needed or other works. Its getting very close to being done (which the treasurer will be relieved at).

πŸ”§ The Workshop Metal Bandsaw decided it needed a rest, or at least it's motor did. After being advised it was unrepairable, we had to purchase a new motor. Now fitted the team will be back in action with their metal cutting needs.

πŸ”΄ A New Old LED Crossing light is being installed on Truscotts Level Crossing. This will release our incandescent crossing light for use around the railway elsewhere after many years good service.

Remember, if a Crossing Light is on, you should have your foot on the brake and be waiting for the light to extinguish before crossing the tracks. Being on Foot, a Bike, Scooter or in a Car makes no difference. Be tracksafe.

Again: If the lights are on, enjoy watching the train and then once the lights extinguish, check both ways & continue on your journey.

Its time for a belated Sunday Site Update! This one’s a little smaller than usual but we hope to have more to share next weekend with this weeks works 😊

πŸ›€οΈ The Moorhouse Main saw another ballast drop by the team on Saturday.

πŸ”§ The Yc has had more pins manufactured for the brake rigging getting it closer to completion.

That's all for this week, make sure to like and follow for more updates!
