Pausing to savour the delicate depths of this moment, she treasures every drop, allowing it to enrich her heart. This, here, now - wow.

Jade Barclay the artist behind Wild and Salty Studio - Tāhuna, Queenstown

'Savour' is an original painting from Jade's Under The Same Sky Collection
Tracing paths, each with our own rhythm and reason - yet, under the same sky, we are held together, woven as one. Inspired by everyday life - and the art of awareness.

What began as a night in a tent above an Abel Tasman beach became an unforgettable photographic opportunity. Having settled into his sleeping bag for the night, Peter was struck by the intensity of the full moon, which lit his tent like daylight. Moments later, he was racing down to the beach to capture this remarkable rock stack beneath a sky filled with stars.

Using multiple 20-second exposures stitched together across the horizon, he preserved the brilliance of the night sky, including Alpha and Beta Centauri - the "Pointers" that have guided navigators for generations.

This powerful image pays tribute to the Māori and European explorers who crossed vast oceans to reach Aotearoa, relying on the stars and their determination to find their way. Standing timelessly against the night sky, the ancient rock formation becomes a silent guardian of the bay - a symbol of endurance, navigation, and connection to place.

Alpenglow is the rosy light that appears on mountain peaks just before sunrise or after sunset, when sunlight reflects off the atmosphere and illuminates the summits.

Rather than relying on warm pinks and reds, Jane captures this fleeting phenomenon through layers of cool blues. Veils of misty colour build depth and atmosphere, allowing the mountain peaks to quietly emerge from beneath the surface. The result is a work that feels both serene and luminous, evoking that magical moment when landscape and light become one.

As we move into the final week of Blackmore Foster: Two Perspectives on Aotearoa Landscapes, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who attended the opening, visited the gallery, shared the exhibition with friends, and spent time with these remarkable works.

It has been a privilege to host this exhibition and to work alongside artists Jane Blackmore and Nic Foster. The response to this exhibition has been incredible, and I’m grateful for the conversations it has sparked within the gallery.

If you’ve been meaning to visit, or if there is a particular work that has captured your attention, do get in touch! This is your final opportunity to experience the exhibition in the gallery before it closes on Thursday 4 June.

As always, thank you for your continued support of Ashe Gallery and the artists whose work fills these walls.

Ngā mihi nui,
Ashleigh

A Kiwi Queen by Lester Hall
After the extraordinary coverage of Elizabeth Windsor's life there is little to say other than she was a paragon of service and the even hand. This artwork celebrates who she was during her years as New Zealand's queen, her down to Earth nature, her time as a mechanic in the Great War and her love of the rural and the outdoor lifestyle. Horses, dogs and long walks in the hills were her loves, the Crown was her duty. Well done Liz.

Exploring the shifting relationship between landscape, memory, and identity, Odelle Morshuis creates deeply atmospheric works across painting and sculpture. Through layered surfaces, fragmented forms, and intuitive mark-making, her practice reflects the fluid nature of human experience and our connection to place.

Her newest works introduce ceramic and steel forms that balance fragility and permanence, presence and absence - inviting viewers into quietly powerful conversations around embodiment, memory, and belonging.

With an already strong following in Christchurch, I'm thrilled to share her work with you through Ashe.
