Charles Ninow Fine Art produced the documentary Art, Activism & Awakenings: Gil Hanly’s Photos of 1960s–80s Aotearoa for Gil’s recent exhibition at the gallery.
The film looks at the pivotal role Gil’s photographs played in recording major political conflicts in Aotearoa, and sheds further light on her work and on Gil herself. It includes interviews with photographer Haruhiko Sameshima and broadcaster Lillian Hanly, Gil’s granddaughter.
Lillian is interviewed in the Hanly House kitchen, where she talks about the house and garden being an integral part of her upbringing.
