ARTIS Gallery has been operating as a dealer gallery in Auckland, New Zealand since 1984. A contemporary gallery with a strong exhibition focus, ARTIS represents a diverse range of leading painters and sculptors from both New Zealand and overseas. Exhibitions change regularly and stock work can be viewed at all times in our Basement Gallery. Owner and Director Jonathan Gooderham purchased ARTIS Ga

llery in 1989 and relocated ARTIS to its present location in Parnell, the Creative Corner of Auckland City. Today, ARTIS is proud to be a cornerstone of the prominent Parnell art community. In 2012 a second gallery space was developed by ARTIS – the BASEMENT Gallery. This large display area presents an extensive selection of works by leading painters & sculptors. The space is unique, allowing visitors to view a wide range of artworks in a working gallery exhibition & storage space. Limen Series — new works by Ron Left, now on view at ARTIS Gallery.

At twilight, colour intensifies — suspended between light and dark. It is within this threshold that these works sit: exploring the space between presence and absence, structure and openness.

Grid-like forms anchor each composition, while luminous fields and subtle door-like motifs suggest passage beyond.

Limen (pronounced lye-min) means “threshold” — a place of transition and possibility.

Now showing.

Nicola Bennett’s latest body of work approaches painting as a full sensory experience — somewhere between flavour, gesture, and memory.

Layers of underpainting emerge through sweeping marks of gesso, while surfaces evoke the rhythms of preparation, touch, and the language of food. For Bennett, painting is something to be felt as much as seen.

To be presented at the upcoming Aotearoa Art Fair 2026.

Song of the Huia (the expatriate’s dream) by Ray Ching.

A deeply personal meditation on distance, belonging, and memory, the work brings together many of Aotearoa’s native birds within a dreamlike forest clearing. Painted while living in England, Ching reflects on homeland, loss, and the enduring pull of New Zealand.

To be presented at the upcoming Aotearoa Art Fair 2026.
