The Legislation (Definition of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill is currently before Parliament. If passed, it would allow the law to define who counts as a woman and who counts as a man based solely on biology.

As organisations working to support, protect, and advocate for our trans, gender diverse, intersex, takatāpui, and MVPFAFF+ communities here in Aotearoa, we are deeply concerned about the far-reaching impacts this bill would have.

We’ve signed an open letter addressed to the people of Aotearoa and the MPs who represent them because we need your support to ensure this bill does not pass.

If you’ve ever said you stand with our communities, this is the moment it matters.
Not quietly. Out loud.

Take action:
You can make a submission before 2 July, it only takes a few minutes, and your voice matters.
Submit here: Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill - New Zealand Parliament
Not sure where to start?
QueerSpace has created a helpful submission tool: queerspace.nz/bill
Qtopia has an excellent submission guide: Submission Guide: Legislation (Definition of Woman & Man) Amendment Bill — Qtopia NZ

Our communities deserve safety, dignity, and recognition in law, not exclusion. What happens next depends on all of us.

Gorgeous day out in the street with our community at the Mana Irawhiti: Defy Definition march. We marched in solidarity displaying our opposition to the "Definitions of woman and man bill.".

We were lucky enough to receive two placards from the march. We are always making history, our next generations need to hear our voices.

Thank you for bringing us together.
Thank you for keeping us safe

Today we mourn the passing of Dame Jools Topp — a taonga of Aotearoa, and a woman who shaped what it meant to live proudly and openly as a le***an in this country.

From busking on Queen Street to our own collection, Jools and Lynda have always been part of our story. Jools was not just an entertainer — she was a pioneer who used music, comedy, and unwavering courage to make generations of le***an and sapphic women feel seen.

She lived with breast cancer for 22 years, and never let it define her. We honour that strength.

Deepest aroha to Dame Lynda and all who loved her. The golden thread endures.
