We are pleased to announce the opening of The Blue Dome, featuring new work by Iranian-born, Tāmaki Makaurau–based artist and filmmaker Selina Ershadi.

Working with film, sound, and text developed during recent trips to Tehran and in Tāmaki Makaurau, she explores the politics of recording personal stories. By working with details often overlooked in official historical narratives, Ershadi questions whose stories are seen, remembered, and valued.

This exhibition is presented in association with Nottingham Contemporary and Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of ModContemporary Modern Art. Thanks to our hospitality sponsors Everyday Wine and Karma Drinks.

Join us for the opening on Friday 24 April from 6–8pm, all welcome.

Rerekē. Different, unusual, abnormal, changed. Rerekē is the programme by Emily Lyall, the 2026 Kaiwhakamahiri Pirihi Taiwhenua curatorial intern. Encouraging artists working today to push themselves to ask: why do we do the things we do? Rerekē instigates a conversation between the artist and questions the constraints established by the way things are and have come to be accepted. Could the response be to be bold, be weird, be different?

Upcoming events and programmes to be announced soon.

Read more about the Rerekē programme on the website and at link in our bio.

We are pleased to announce the opening of After the undercurrents, an exhibition which brings together the artwork of Gordon Bennett and Emily Karaka, two senior artists from Australia and Aotearoa.

Their artworks draw on narratives of place, colonisation, popular culture, and Indigenous world views to explore ideas of struggle and belonging. Through their unique painting styles these artists question our histories and invite us to imagine our futures.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the opening of this year’s Chartwell Trust New Commissions exhibition, Echo. Congratulations to all of the artists Erika Holm, Ngaroma Riley, Tarika Sabherwal and their mentors Anoushka Akel, Nova Paul, and Judy Darragh for their work across the year towards these new artworks. Thank you to the Chartwell Trust for supporting this kaupapa.

As Kairauhī Curator Robbie Handcock notes, “One of the great things about our New Commissions exhibition is the surprising connections and contrasts that come out of the selection of artists and the works they produce. This year we see some vastly different reference points come together, from Kalighat painting, to karetao, to furniture making. What emerges is a shared interest in folk, craft, and design practices and their tensions within contemporary art.”
