That’s a wrap for Aotearoa Art Fair 2026 ✨

Thank you to everyone who came through our booth over the four days. It was an honour to showcase not only Ōtara, but the wider South Auckland community at this years Aotearoa Art Fair.

We loved connecting with so many of you, hearing your stories and memories of Ōtara, and extending an open invitation to come and experience our community for yourselves.

A huge thank you to A‘aifou Potemani, the artist we had the privilege of working with this year. Your presence, generosity, and commitment over the past four days meant so much. Thank you also to our Programmer, Sione Faletau, your vision and dedication made this all possible. To our gallery team, thank you for being the face and voice of our space. We also extend our thanks to Caroline Vercoe, Linda Tyler, and Anita Totha for including Fresh Gallery in your tours, we truly appreciate your support.

To everyone we connected with, thank you. We hope to see you in Ōtara soon!

Friday night we opened a new and exciting exhibition, Corned Beef Sandwiches by Ahsin Ahsin.

In this exhibition Ahsin Ahsin uses pop culture references as timestampes, these stories are transformed into playful textile works inspired by his Cook Islands heritage and the traditions of tīvaevae. The result is a nostalgic celebration of the people, places, and everyday rituals that defined a South Auckland upbringing.

Thank you to Js Mighty Fry who whipped up a special but fitting request of corned beef sandwiches for this exhibition.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Carving Workshops on Friday and Saturday, led by exhibiting artist Jim To'o Filiva'a Stretton.

During these sessions, participants were guided through hands-on carving techniques and explored the stories and meanings behind traditional patterns. Thank you to Jim To'o Filiva'a Stretton for giving us insight into the cultural meaning of each design, giving us a deeper appreciation of his carvings and allowing us to create our own meaningful works.

This marks our final workshop for the year, and it’s been a fantastic way to close out 2025. As always, a huge thank you to the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board for their continued support, which allows us to offer these workshops free to our community.

The exhibition will remain open until Friday 19 December, so make sure you come by and check it out!
