Northart

Northart NorthArt has a vision of developing a thriving arts hub that represents, connects and inspires the Kaipātiki community and beyond.

Tucked behind the Northcote shopping centre and alongside the library in the Kaipatiki region of Auckland’s North Shore, Northart is just ten minutes from downtown Auckland, with plenty of free parking and bus stops nearby. Multilingual words of welcome emblazoned on Northart’s window frontage invite all visitors into the gallery. Northart provides an accessible and community focussed programme of

exhibitions by emerging and established, local and national artists, which changes out every three weeks, so there’s always something new and interesting. You’ll also discover an associated programme of regular public events, classes and arts activities.

IMAgEN8: Kaipātiki, Nurturing a Love for Nature

Opens Saturday 30 May, 2pm | On view throughout June

We are delighted to present the results of a special photography programme run in partnership with IMAgEN8, delivered for tamariki across the Kaipātiki area. Through mindful nature photography, young students explored their local environment — learning to slow down, look closely, and connect with the ecosystems around them.

The photographs they produced will form a beautiful exhibition running throughout June as part of the Auckland Festival of Photography. Alongside the exhibition, a programme of community art-making and image-based workshops will be held in partnership with local organisations — a wonderful opportunity for whānau to gather, create, and connect.

Come along to the opening on Saturday 30th May from 2pm to celebrate the students beautifully realised imagery.

There will be wildflower seeds to take home and celebrate nature in your garden (limited availability), Fantail crafts (make your own unique fantail) and learn about flood resilience with your friends and family (snakes and ladders style).

On June 27th to mark the end of the exhibition we will be doing Cyanotype Printing from 2-4pm (please note spaces are on a first come basis and children must be accompanied by an adult for this activity).

Last day tomorrow of "Works on Paper" Members Exhibition at Northart Gallery. Pictured below are image details of Margaret Feeney's “Ghost Plants 1” and
“Ghost Plants 2”. Margaret makes work to think about the hijacking of the natural world and the human-built world by the modern market system. Recognising the mauri of other entities, both animate and inanimate. The Ghost Plants are part of her current project A Black Comedy in Pastels.

Margaret has an upcoming workshop 3D Mark Making Monday 25th May 5.30pm-7.30pm at Northart for those interested in learning techniques and tactics of mark making and can be booked here https://www.northartgallery.net/store/p/3d-markmaking-monday-25th-may-530pm-730pm?fbclid=IwY2xjawR8r9RleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFkazNPVzl2ZVNsZVRJazNLc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHhVSupdyLNtdNXuzLINWb7guIhN-iF60tVPTnKH050lNl3Cys7GyGpNXVJUg_aem_DgoroNl2R-oJXIn8h_4Vlg

Final Days of "Works on Paper" Members Exhibition at Northart Gallery (Finishing on Saturday 23rd May). Included in the exhibition is the subtle, elegant “CC13 Fount”, by Shayna Quinn Bowyer.

Living and practicing on the picturesque Mahurangi Peninsular, north of Tamaki-Makaurau, Shayna Quinn- Bowyer creates art that explores place, time & balance. Her practice is an exploration of materials. A merging of subtly gestural paintings; laced with movement through light, depth, and softly undulating colour. Overlaid
by carefully considered compositions of natural materials including wool, cotton, silk, glass, clay, precious and semi-precious gems, and metals. These elements are hand-applied through textile techniques passed down to
the artist through family lines.

Final days of "Light and Dream" by talented young artist Mengdi Zha with the exhibition closing this Saturday at 4pm. It has been lovely to have so many members of the local community come into the gallery to see Mengdi's beautiful work and seeing their interest in her graphic novel. Mengdi has been working hard on a new artwork that we are excited to exhibit as part of our upcoming "Works on Paper" Northart Members Exhibition - more to come on that exhibition very soon.
