Today, Directors Richard Thomson and Frances Davies along with their team of commited, approachable and professional staff continue that legacy. Knowledge and experience of the New Zealand and International art markets, coupled with an ongoing dedication to excellent service sees International Art Centre as the only auction house in New Zealand specialising solely in Fine Art. Whilst specialists in resale and valuation of all 19th, 20th & 21st Century New Zealand Paintings, International Art Centre has long been associated with the sale of significant artworks by Charles Blomfield, Raymond Ching, Charles F Goldie, Frances Hodgkins, John Barr Clarke Hoyte, Evelyn Page, Peter McIntyre and Artist's Estate Collections. International Art Centre also works closely with New Zealand Art Institutions, Trust Collections, Private Collectors and Dealers, and has an extensive national and global network of contacts within the industry gathered in over forty years of trading.

Forthcoming Gallery Exhibition
Gabryel Harrison, Florals and Portal | 06.07 - 28.07

Upcoming in our Gallery is an exciting solo exhibition by Gabryel Harrison. Born in New Zealand and now living and working in Vancouver, Canada, Harrison is a painter and poet inspired by the natural world and in particular its botanical forms. In her hands, the temporality of our existence is revealed in the gestural abstractions of florals, foliage and landforms.

‘In my 2026 series Floral and Portal, I meditate on the ordinary flower as a profound response to the "self-destructive inventions of civilization." Working in acrylic and oil, I explore the intersection of the natural world—land, light, and flora—with the human experience of mortality and transience. Flowers mirror our own delicate balance of strength and fragility.

I am captivated by the archetype of "Paradise" and the cross-cultural narrative of the Garden of Eden. My work questions how we tend our human garden, both literally and figuratively; I believe that cultivating our inner landscape is as vital to our survival as tending the soil that feeds us. As David G. Haskell notes, we are a "floral species"—human evolution is inextricably linked to the flower.

Drawing on the Japanese concept of mono no aware—a beauty tinged with the sadness of its passing—I paint both the bloom and the decay. In a world defined by volatility and speed, these paintings serve as portals: quiet spaces for reflection on what it means to be alive, adaptable, and mortal.’

Women in Art | A. Lois White

A seminal oil by Lois White is included in our Women in Art auction and is accompanied by an enlightening essay by Linda Tyler which is available to read by visiting the link in our bio.

Lois White excelled at geometrical life drawing which was introduced by Englishman Archibald Fisher (1896- 1959) to the Elam School of Fine Arts in 1924. She developed a style characterised by the stylisation and repetition of figures, catching the rhythm of Art Deco and the Jazz Age which defined her youth.

This artwork is on display in our auction house, with tomorrow being your last day to view the sale.

Sitting well within her oeuvre, The Cha Cha, 1973 exemplifies the artists use of colour to depict the rhythm and the vibrancy of life. Nigro studied under A. Lois White, John Weeks and Archibald Fisher during her time at Elam (1936 - 1938).
