Yesterday at Art Club, tamariki experimented with the crayon resist technique, drawing with crayons and oil pastels before painting watercolours over top.

It was so fun seeing the colourful drawings appear through the paint as the water-resistant materials created different patterns and effects. We can’t wait to see everyone next week!

The Papakura Art Gallery would like to extend an invitation to our upcoming book-making workshop with our current exhibiting artists, Joanna Cook and Steve Lovett.

Join us for a hands-on bookmaking workshop exploring simple, creative ways to make your own artist books and handmade publications. Participants will be introduced to a range of accessible book structures, including hidden/origami books, glued books, and saddle-stitched or stapled books.

This workshop is ideal for artists, teachers, students, writers, makers, and anyone interested in creative publishing, zines, storytelling, or paper-based practice. You will learn practical techniques that can be adapted for classrooms, community projects, personal art practice, or small-scale publications.

Bring your curiosity and a willingness to fold, cut, glue, stitch, staple, and experiment.

This workshop is suitable for those 12 and over. Spaces are limited, so please RSVP by DM or emailing the gallery ([email protected])

Yesterday at Art Club, tamariki explored collage-making using magazine cut-outs.

Each child followed their own interests, from a garden of flowers to a volcano surrounded by collaged dinosaurs. We loved seeing all the different ideas come to life, and we can’t wait to see everyone next week!

This week at Art Club, we will be making collages out of magazines! Looking forward to seeing you all after our break 🤩

A big mihi to everyone who joined us for the opening of (il)legible inkscription by Joanna Cook and Steve Lovett.

We had a great turnout last week, with thoughtful discussion around the work. It was powerful to hear the artists speak about the ideas behind the work, as well as the emotions and processes that inform it.

Come down, take your time with the work, and experience this powerful exhibition for yourself.

Important notice for our Art Club patrons! We are closed for install and return on Thursday 21st of May. See you then!
