Kāryn Taylors exhibition 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨 continues over the long weekend.

‘In Experimental Physics, [Taylor’s] inquiry takes on a new dimension: through an animated installation, a series of sculptural works and a sequence of light boxes, extending her investigation by questioning the assumptions that underpin our experience of physical reality. Taylor expands the traditional premise of drawing, allowing the line to move through time and occupy a space that exceeds the physical boundaries of the object.’ - Dina Jezdic

Sam Loe’s paintings begin via a return to physical presence and the senses: resting, slowing the breath, letting the mind wander. Blankets become both her resting and working surfaces, evoking touch, skin, and warmth. They provide a soft territory for airbrushed paint to land through stencils hand-cut from drawings. As substrates, the blankets enhance the paintings as objects, creating a double-world where materiality and illusion meet.

‘[Taylor] is interested in the space in-between where together we can experience curiosity. This is ultimately what makes Experimental Physics so compelling. By searching for a space where forms remain open, the artworks precede interpretation.’

In 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨 ‘Taylor expands the traditional premise of drawing, allowing the line to move through time and occupy a space that exceeds the physical boundaries of the object. The works draw us in through familiar geometric forms, while subtly shifting our confidence in what we think we see. Circles and squares suggest order and certainty, but changing light and colour make that certainty obscured, revealing perception itself as something contingent and conditional. Through playful process and geometry that provides an apparent logic, Taylor presents us with abstract ideas and physically seductive art, where mass, weight and presence become fluid’

Sanderson are delighted to announce the exhibition 𝘽𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙏𝙬𝙤 𝙇𝙪𝙣𝙜𝙨 by Sam Loe will open October 14th 2026.

Sam Loe (b.1975, Switzerland) is an Aotearoa-based painter whose biomorphic paintings, often large-scale and unstretched, investigate abstract motifs and gestural icons and forms. Having completed her original studies at Goldsmiths College, London, Loe returned to painting after a career teaching yoga, meditation and somatic movement. Following post-graduate study in Ōtepoti Dunedin, Loe went on to complete her Master of Fine Arts with First Class Honours at Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland in 2025. Loe has been selected as a finalist for the Molly Morpeth Canaday Award 2026 and recently exhibited in both the MOTHERMOTHER exhibition and Sanderson’s Emerging Artists exhibition earlier this year.
