Sanderson are pleased to announce the exhibition ๐‘บ๐’‚๐’„๐’“๐’๐’”๐’‚๐’๐’„๐’• by Mickey Smith will open May 29th 2026.

An evolution of Smithโ€™s award-winning photographic series ๐˜๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ and an expansion on the artistโ€™s decades-long inquiry into the physical and social significance of literary texts and archives: this new body of work shifts the artistโ€™s iconographic survey from bound periodicals in public stacks to the uncanny terrain of centuries-old religious manuscripts. By documenting these ancient volumes with forensic intimacy, Smith highlights the anthropological importance of archaic spiritual texts and the ways in which they have become symbols of the layering of time, of culture and place.

The opening will take place Friday May 29th โ€“ 5.30-7pm

With wines from and cheeses from Kฤpiti

All Welcome ๐ŸŒŸ

This exhibition is part of the Auckland Festival of Photography

A full text by Nadine Ruben Nathan will accompany the exhibition.

Reflecting on the Aotearoa Art Fair after a week of recovery.

We are so grateful to all those who came to support us and the fair and all the incredible artists and galleries showcasing.

We missed our colleague .si.rong and were so grateful that Elise jumped into the deep end to join our team at such an intense time.

It was a real privilege to showcase the work of Simon Kaan, Julia Holderness, Freeman White & Natasha Wright at this years edition.

Special thanks to .label for making our team the most beautiful season-less dresses for the opening night and for our beautiful Fren Rรธjle furniture

Congrats to all the exhibitors and thank you so much to .art and the team

For the Aotearoa Art Fair 2026 Sanderson has presented a new series of oil paintings and works on paper by Aotearoa born artist Natasha Wright. Drawing from portrayals of women throughout antiquity to modern day advertising campaigns and fashion shoots, Wrightโ€™s works are grounded in the history of our image making; whilst presenting something instinctively unique. Blurring the boundaries between the internal self and the externally built personas we create, Wrightโ€™s paintings explore concepts of gender and sexuality.

The fair is on for one more day. See link in bio to book tickets

Cachemaille has provided purposefully made fired ceramic works featuring angular forms and gestural hands and feet, as well as a large mixed media sculptural โ€˜armโ€™ titled ๐˜๐˜ถ๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด, which is installed on the central column in the store.

As part of the activation the Aotearoa Art Fair and Karen Walker hosted a talk with gallerist Lydia Cowpertwait and artists, which was part of the VIP programme.

For Aotearoa Art Fair 2026 Simon Kaan has created a new series of Marama paintings. Made in his studio during an intense period following a close friend passing away the series explores the interplay of Te Ao (light), Te Pล (darkness), and spiritual symbolism; drawing on the concept of the Marama (the moon) as a guiding force that is comforting and ever-present. Through layered textures and subtle tonal shifts, the works explore a contemplative atmosphere that reflects both the natural rhythms of life and our inner emotional worlds.
