Here are 14 new and a few updated designs in my Top Town series, which will soon be available as reusable stickers.

Following some feedback on a few location names, I’ve made a few tweaks to make sure each town gets the recognition it deserves!

Each design captures the landmarks and icons that make a place unique, with its own combination of shapes, fonts and colours.

I’m now up to 65 designs, chipping away at my goal of 100.

I’ve recently been living in the non digital world and just finished painting 10 small hardboard circles for GALLERY DE NOVO • DUNEDIN, NZ group show - A Round Christmas. These are inspired by old fish n chip shops, NZ signage and packaging and 80’s arcade games. Pretty fun to create and swimming off to Dunedin soon. 🐟🐡🐠

I’ve just finished a new project, something a bit different: The Big NZ Bird Colouring Poster - Edition 1.

The idea was simple: get kids off phones and tablets during the school holidays and back to some good old-fashioned pen-on-paper colouring. And once it’s finished, it can be framed and put on the bedroom wall.

It’s a giant A1 illustrated scene packed with New Zealand birds and native wildlife, basically a big Kiwi ecosystem to colour in. I’ve partnered with Forest & Bird, donating $1 from every sale to help protect New Zealand’s native birds and wild places.

And in keeping with the old-school theme, not a single bit of this illustration was created with AI just a human, a mouse, and a lot of hours! The poster is available as an affordable download and includes 8 additional A4 colouring pages.

This is the first in a planned series of Big NZ Colouring Posters, with each edition featuring a different scene and supporting a different New Zealand charity. Awesome to catch up with my good friend and fellow illustrator Ross Murray last night at his Bedford Street book launch at Auckland Library. Wow what a cool book! It even comes with a hand drawn illustration on the inside. Ross is a beautiful human inside and out, he’s checked in on me regualarly after all my health issues, he even made soup for mum and left it on her door step when she was battling cancer. He’s also incredibly talented at drawing. If you aren’t familiar with his work check out his insta. The world could use more Ross’s, especially now.

I’ve just created my final illustration for The Sydney Morning Herald’s Savvy Traveller.

The article accompanying this illustration was titled “Finally, a reason to use AI instead of bitching about it.” It feels particularly timely, with Nine Entertainment recently making 30 staff at The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age redundant, with reports citing “extreme” AI disruption as one of the reasons behind the cuts.

This was my 163rd illustration for Savvy Traveller, after collaborating with the team on these weekly illustrations for the past four years. It’s been pretty cool, taking inspiration from a travel story and turning it into an often humorous illustration that then appears in the newspaper and online. And with 163 illustrations, I’ve probably never drawn so many kangaroos!

Here are a few of my favourites, covering a multitude of different themes and destinations. It’s been a great experience working with the team, and I’m really proud of what we created together. But I guess, like any journey, this one eventually has to come to an end.

Earlier this week, photographer and friend Damien Van Der Vlist visited the Chorus office in Christchurch and captured some great shots of the mural I created a few months ago.

The brief was to create a large-scale visual story that reflected the Chorus brand and values, while bringing in recognisable Christchurch landmarks and New Zealand iconography.

At 1.5m high by 26m long, the mural covers 39sqm, wrapping around two meeting rooms and extending across walls, doors, lockers, quiet rooms and utility spaces.

It’s the largest mural I’ve created to date and took around three weeks to complete. The feedback has been fantastic — and I’ve even been told the Chorus CEO loves it, which is pretty cool.

If you have blank office walls that are crying out for some personality, I can help turn them into something that looks great and tells your brand story.

A decade ago, I had an idea.

Why not create a logo or symbol for every town in New Zealand and call the collection New Zealand’s Top Towns, a nod to the classic TV show of yesteryear?

It was always going to be a big project, and like many personal projects, it got pushed aside by client work.

Then last year, I picked it up again.

I’ve now created 50 Top Towns, each one with its own shape, colours, typography and visual story, capturing something of what makes that place unique.

And it’s not just about our biggest cities. I wanted to celebrate the hidden gems, holiday spots and little places that make New Zealand such an awesome country.

A few weeks ago, the good folks at Image Vault turned the artwork into collectable, affordable stickers. Perfect for the car, luggage or kids rooms.

Now I’m planning the next 50. I’ve already got most of them mapped out (excuse the pun).
