Obs obs! Fortvil ikkje, her er eit supergodt alternativ, eit fornuftig og vakkert ullstoff 💛
Did you know the texstile industry is one of the world’s biggest polluters?
From carbon emissions to water use, chemicals, waste, and microplastics — the impact is massive.
Climate impact
The fashion industry is responsible for around 10% of global CO₂ emissions — more than international flights and shipping combined. Fast fashion’s rapid production cycles push this number even higher.
Water use & pollution
The industry consumes 93 billion m³ of water every year.
Textile dyeing and processing account for 20% of global industrial water pollution.
Chemicals & toxins
Over 8,000 synthetic chemicals are used in textile production, including dyes, bleaches, and PFAS.
Waste & overproduction
The world throws away 120 million tons of textiles every year.
85% ends up in landfills or is burned, while less than 1% is recycled into new textiles.
Microplastics
Synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, and acrylic cause 35% of microplastic pollution in the oceans, mostly released during laundry.
Polyester is fossil‑fuel based, adding to both emissions and plastic pollution.
SYD was created with one clear mission: to develop a textile that doesn’t harm the planet.
This is why we chose to work with local, natural, renewable, and recyclable resources that are currently underused — and to produce them through a local, circular value chain, without chemicals
A textile made with care for nature, rooted in place, and designed for the future.
