setting på Straumen gård, noe som har sammenheng med at stedet ligger godt plassert i forhold til ressurser både i sjøen og på land. Aller viktigst er Rystraumen som gir særdeles godt fiske, blant annet av sei. De fleste bygningene du kan se i dag er fra 1800-tallet. På ei rekke langs fjæra ligger hus for folk og matstell, mens fjøs, stall og låve er plassert i ytterkanten av tunet. Sjøhusene som hørte til, to naust og en sjå, er dessverre borte. Det var synd i den stakkar`n som ikke hadde ei skikkelig kjærring. En fisker og en bonde
En gang omtalte man menn på steder som Straumen gård for fiskebønder. I dag er det vanlig å si at kvinnen var bonde og mannen fisker. Uansett var livene deres et mangesysleri der de var sterkt avhengig av hverandres innsats. Straumen gård er ikke gjerdet inn, og det er alltid mulig å vandre mellom husene på tunet. Anlegget er åpent ved arrangementer og skoleopplegg.
