I dag hadde vi gleden av å ønske representanter fra Oslo kommune velkommen til Kunstnernes Hus for samtaler om rehabiliteringen av Kunstnernes Hus og arbeidet med å bevare og fremtidssikre .

Gjennom presentasjoner og omvisninger hos både KH og UKS snakket vi også om det kunstneriske økosystemet i Oslo, og hvilken rolle mindre og mellomstore institusjoner spiller for kunstnere lokalt, nasjonalt og internasjonalt.

Takk til Ola Wolff Elvevold , Øyvind Håbrekke, Eivor Evenrud , Rauand Ismail , Per-Trygve Hoff , Ismail Ali Hussein .hussein, Anna Dåsnes , Chiara Cavalleri , Arina Aamir .aamir, Bjørgulv Vinje Borgundvaag og Stein Ole Kolstad Varhaug  for besøket—og til for samtaler og samarbeide 🫶.

Today we welcomed representatives from Oslo kommune to Kunstnernes Hus and UKS for conversations about the rehabilitation of Kunstnernes Hus and the work of preserving and future-proofing .

Through presentations and tours at both KH and UKS, we also discussed Oslo’s artistic ecosystem and the important role small and mid-sized institutions play for artists locally, nationally, and internationally.

Thanks to the politicians and Oslo administration for the visit, and to UKS for the conversations and collaboration.

Denne uken holder kafeteriaen åpent med bar + snacksmeny både tirsdag 12. og onsdag 13. mai kl. 11-23 (kjøkkenet er stengt).

Åpent som vanlig torsdag 14. mai (Kristi himmelfart) kl. 11-23 og i helgen!

Etter mange år med trofast tjeneste har varmtvannstanken på huset valgt å gå av med pensjon.

➡️ Tirsdag 12. mai og onsdag 13. mai holder åpent som vanlig kl. 11–23 — med bar og snacksmeny.
➡️ Inntil ny bereder er på plass vil det dessverre ikke være tilgang på varmtvann på huset.

Vi beklager ulempene dette medfører!



After many years of faithful service, the hot water tank in the house has chosen to retire.

➡️ Tuesday, May 12 and Wednesday, May 13 will be open as usual from 11 am to 11 pm — with a bar and snack menu.
➡️ Until the new boiler is in place, there will unfortunately be no access to hot water in the house.

We apologize for the inconvenience this causes!

To samlinger. To geografier. Ett felles forsvar av havet.

Bildene samler bidrag til Minga for the Sea fra Red de Mujeres Originarias por la Defensa del Mar i Chile og Redd Repparfjorden / Ellos Riehpovuotna i Sápmi.
Materialer fra land og fjære—samlet, vevd, båret—rommer kunnskap, minner og relasjoner.

På tvers av halvkuler vil de knyttes sammen i Cecilia Vicuñas Minga for the Sea, der quipuer forbinder kamper i Chile og Sápmi til et felles, levende arkiv.

Minga—dugnad for fellesskapet—er en oppfordring til å lytte på tvers av territorier og erkjenne havet som et felles opphav og ansvar.

Utstillingen åpner 29. mai.

Two gatherings. Two geographies. One shared defense of the sea.

These images bring together contributions to Minga for the Sea by Red de Mujeres Originarias por la Defensa del Mar in Chile and Redd Repparfjorden / Ellos Riehpovuotna in Sápmi.

Objects from land and shore—gathered, woven, carried—hold knowledge, memory, and relation. Across hemispheres, they will connect through Cecilia Vicuña’s Minga for the Sea, where quipus link struggles in Chile and Sápmi into a shared, living archive.

Minga—collective labor for the common good—is a call to listen across territories and recognize the sea as shared origin and responsibility.

The exhibition opens May 29th.

Minga for the Sea is a major new commission by the internationally acclaimed Chilean artist, poet, and activist Cecilia Vicuña, developed specifically for Kunstnernes Hus.

Kjærlighetshandlinger for hav og land fra sør til nord: Opplev internasjonal stjernekunstner Cecilia Vicuña i eksklusiv samtale med Jannik Abel! Samtalen foregår på engelsk og finner sted i forkant av åpningen av sommerutstillingen med Vicuña, Minga for havet.

Minga for the Sea is developed specifically for Kunstnernes Hus. The project builds bridges between Indigenous groups in the southern and northern regions of the globe who stand at the frontline against resource extraction and pollution in their local marine environments. The exhibition opens at 7:00 PM that evening, and runs until August 9th.

God 1. mai! 🪧

I 1972 og 1973 gikk de ansatte ved Dare Foods Limited i Kitchener, Ontario til streik for å protestere mot dårlige arbeidsforhold og lønnsdiskriminering. 275 av 365 ansatte var kvinner. I april 1973 filmet Joyce Wieland en demonstrasjon til støtte for streiken med sitt Bolex-kamera – men uten å vise ansiktene. Kameraet retter seg i stedet mot føttene, og deltakerne fremstilles som en masse snarere enn individer. Ordet «Solidaritet» stå i sentrum av bildet og understreker denne følelsen av fellesskap.

Solidarity (1973), vises som en del av den kritikerroste utstillingen No Master Territories: Feminist Worldmaking and the Moving Image. Siste dag søndag 3. mai!

May 1st marks Labour Day! 🪧

In 1972 and 1973, employees of the Dare Foods Limited factory in Kitchener, Ontario—275 out of 365 of them women—went on strike in protest of poor working conditions and a gender pay gap. In April 1973, Joyce Wieland attended a demonstration in support of the strike and used a Bolex to film only the feet of those present. Leaving behind the individuality of the face, she looks to the anonymity of the ground and emblazons the word “solidarity” across the center of the frame, emphasizing a sense of communality.

Solidarity (1973) is on display as part of the critically acclaimed exhibition No Master Territories: Feminist Worldmaking and the Moving Image. Last day Sunday, May 3!

På den ene galleriveggen i overlyssalen vises fotografier tatt av Agnès Varda. I 1957 reiste filmskaperen til Kina som del av en fransk delegasjon. I to måneder var Varda delegasjonens fotograf, og tok tusenvis av bilder som dokumenterte tiden før «Det store spranget».

Utvalget som vises i utstillingen er konsentrert om Vardas skildringer av kvinner og barn, og tydeliggjør hennes nysgjerrighet og sans for kompleksitet. Bildene får fram det forunderlige og spektakulære i hverdagslige og trivielle scener. De knuser enhver stereotyp forestilling om Kina som en homogen kultur, og inviterer til både fantasi og empati.

On one of the gallery walls in the skylight hall, photographs taken by Agnès Varda are on display. In 1957, she traveled to China as part of a French delegation. For two months, Varda served as the delegation’s photographer, taking thousands of images that documented the period before the “Great Leap Forward.”

The selection shown here focuses on her depictions of women and children and highlights her curiosity and sensitivity to complexity. The images reveal the extraordinary and striking aspects of everyday, seemingly trivial scenes. They challenge any stereotypical notion of China as a homogeneous culture and invite both imagination and empathy.
