Cone 7 Ceramic Workshop

Cone 7 Ceramic Workshop Cone 7 is a ceramic center based in Bergen, Norway. Cone 7 is a ceramic center based in Bergen, Norway and is co-founded by Lorie Ballage and Eléonore Griveau.

Open to artists, designers, and anyone willing to experiment with clay, our mission is to develop a long term ceramic community and to promote its application in art, design and craft. Our ceramic workshop aims to become an open cultural platform where any interested parties may experiment with clay and specific tools that are involved in a ceramic based practice. The workshop facilitates research

methods, courses and other arrangements. As an open ceramic workshop where classes are held, artists can also rent a space or a technician to complete their specific projects. OUR FACTILITIES

GENERAL WORKSHOP AND KILNS
We currently own a 300L large electric kiln, various heavy duty machinery (such as an extruder and a slab roller) and we will be soon owning a 60L top loader electric kiln. The glaze laboratory is in the process of being implemented. GLAZING ROOM
One of the biggest processes that is often reduced and limited to ceramists is making glazing from scratch. We often limit ourselves to expensive “ready made glaze” with little possibilities as a proper glaze laboratory requires strict health and safety regulations. As glazing researchers, one of the assets in our workshop is the possibility to teach everything about the glazing process and offer the access to use the laboratory and its glaze archive. Our glaze library is a project built by Lorie Ballage, which consists of an archive of research about the possibilities of glazes. This growing project aims to expand itself throughout Cone 7 by working closely with guest researchers and curious learners eager to contribute to a library in constant development. FABLAB
Another unique project in Bergen would be our ceramic fablab. New technologies involved with ceramic are currently not existent in Bergen. Our digital workshop conducted by Eleonore Griveau aims to be open to anyone who wants to create a 3D object. From 3D drawing, scanning, editing and printing, we can facilitate advice and assist while offering plenty of space to work and experiment with our machines.

☀️ Clay and Drinks at Bodega 🩵

Cone 7 is coming to town and taking over Bodega for one evening, clay, drinks and good vibes right in the heart of the city 😍

Join Vilde and Eléonore for a 3h pottery session where you’ll learn three handbuilding techniques (pinch, coil, slab) and create whatever you feel like, cups, bowls, candle holders or small sculptures. No rules, just making.

You’ll decorate your pieces with ceramic colors, paint, patterns, stamps or writing, and create up to 3 pieces during the session.

Drinks available at the bar (not included), and you’re welcome to stay a bit after the workshop if you feel like it.

We take care of drying, firing and glazing, finished with a transparent glossy, food safe glaze. Your pieces will be ready for pickup 3 to 4 weeks later at our studio in Laksevåg, about 10 minutes by bus from the city center.

This past month has been something special 💙

We’ve had in residency at , in partnership with and it’s been such a joy to share time, space, and ideas together. A collaboration naturally grew between the artists Anne-Lise Voisin and Eléonore , Director of Cone7 ✨

We’re really happy to invite you to Emergency mountain dose, a small one day exhibition where we’ll share what came out of this three week residency in our workshop.

Week 1 & 2 of our 5-week Advanced Handbuilding course !

These first sessions are all about exploring textures and surfaces. We start by making test tiles, small objects, and texture samples that will later become the basis for mold making in week 3.

Some students brought beautiful natural materials — stones, shells, seaweed — to press into the clay and capture delicate impressions. These textures will soon be transformed into plaster molds so they can be repeated, cast, and developed into new forms.

I love this stage of the process. It’s experimental and playful. 😍 Can’t wait to see what these textures will become in the coming weeks ✨

Week 5/5 Handbuilding course !
Glazing session. ✨

Always the most intense one.

After five weeks of shaping, building, testing, carving, and pushing ideas further, we arrive at that final stage where everything shifts. The forms are made. The decisions feel bigger. Every brushstroke suddenly matters.

Layers that look dull, matte, sometimes even disappointing… and yet, at 1240°C, everything transforms.
Surfaces open up. Colors melt and move. Textures gain depth. What looked quiet becomes alive.

Glazing is a mix of excitement and vulnerability. You imagine the result. You hope. You try to control what you can… and then you let the kiln do the rest.

That’s what I love about this session.

Watching my students move from “I’m not sure this will work” to “wow… I made this.”
Sometimes the results are exactly what they imagined.
Sometimes they’re even better.

So proud of this five-week handbuilding group. We started with raw clay, and we’re ending with pieces ready to reveal their final surface. 🔥

Everything is going into the kiln this weekend, and the results will be here very soon.

We’ll show you all the finished pieces in the next post 👀✨
