Final presentation Zoöp Connections Residency: Notations for a Living Infrastructure
Sunday 11 October, Kunstfort Vijfhuizen

Artists Mia Milgrom (Czech Republic) and Ella Prokkola (Finland) have been our guests as Zoöp residents. For a month, they immerse themselves in the water, the clay and the polder area around the fort.

ella prokkola tella investigates the landscape as a polyphonic interplay of human and more-than-human actors, with her own scoring system and cartography. mia_milgrom ilgrom is researching how bacteria can convert loose clay into a stone-like material, for a sculpture with a bioreceptive surface in which life from the environment can find a place.

On Sunday 11 October, they will bundle their practices in a workshop. Will you be there?

Check our website for more info about the workshop.

🌪️Inspired by the theme of the archaeology of the future in the exhibition Oblivion was unavoidable, we asked the participating artists the following question:

How do you see (systems of) forgetting and preservation reflected in your work in this exhibition?
This is how Walter Costa (Walter Costa) and Rebeca Romero (Rebeca Romero) responded:

Walter: “The online trade in looted artifacts thrives on oblivion: the objects must change hands as discreetly as possible, so that they can reappear on the open market as legitimate. Meanwhile, the digital traces generated as they pass through online marketplaces such as Facebook remain. My work explores this duality: without the published images of the artifacts for sale, we wouldn’t know of the existence of those objects; using them to generate 3D copies is thus an attempt to preserve tangible evidence of the trafficking until the originals reappear in some gallery, auction house, or private collection.”

Rebeca: “I’m interested in how knowledge is preserved, transformed and carried through objects, images, rituals, and stories. I use speculative artefacts and digital technologies to create encounters with histories and systems of knowledge that may have been erased or displaced. My practice moves between archival research, traditional making and contemporary digital fabrication, using fiction as a way to reassemble fragments and propose alternative ways of seeing the past and imagining the future.”

🌪️Inspired by the theme of the archaeology of the future in the exhibition Oblivion was unavoidable, we asked the participating artists the following question:

How do you see (systems of) forgetting and preservation reflected in your work in this exhibition?
This is how Clara Pallí Monguilod (Clara Palli) and Winnie Claessens (Winnie Claessens) responded:

Clara: “The work reflects on the acceptance of things coming to an end, even when we hope otherwise. It embraces the sense of being part of a larger whole, where everything is interconnected and subject to cyclical rhythms. To me, it is in the collective that there is a form of preservation and continuity. With this understanding comes a sense of responsibility.”

Winnie: “In my work, preserving ideas and systems plays an important role. Through scale models, video, and sculptures, I construct possible worlds in which architecture, technology, and infrastructure become traces of a particular way of thinking. By recombining existing images and ideas, they are both preserved and transformed. The work thus exists on the threshold between remembering and forgetting.”

Sore Spot Songs 🎶🌿
Part 2 - Saturday 29 August 2026

Artists Esther Mugambi, Sarah van Lamsweerde and Ewoud Vermote, from the collective Agripuncture, make songs about places and the sometimes sensitive memories attached to them.

From 13 August up to 13 September, they will be working at and around the fort on their long-term project Sore Spot Songs. In this project, they explore places associated with feelings and memories, or where pain may still linger. Has something happened that changed the way a place feels? What happens when you revisit those memories? And how can the healing power of plants and songs play a meaningful role in this?

To collect stories, they will talk to locals and people from Kunstfort’s network. They will turn the stories that are shared into songs. A podcast will also be made in which the songs and stories can be heard.

💌 Would you like to come and share your story this Saturday? You are very welcome!
Please let us know at [email protected], with “Sore Spot Songs” in the subject line.

We will gather next to the hangar, down the stairs to the fort.
Time: 15.00-17.00h.
