SEA Foundation Tilburg

SEA Foundation Tilburg Space for contemporary art & sustainability | artists, curators & writers in residence SEA Foundation doesn’t adhere to the logics of an institution.

SEA Foundation is a not-for-profit, artist-led organisation in Tilburg the Netherlands. Over the past few years SEA Foundation became known as an umbrella label for, support, solo exhibitions, art projects, exchanges, publications. Our artist in Residence programme – AiR Tilburg – attracts artists, curators and writers to residencies that include bespoke mentoring. It is an agile and fluid network

environment, where life and work intertwines. In all our activities we are fueled by visual arts. Transgressing the boundaries between disciplines and always putting the context and the idea before the medium. By working in different cultural contexts, the foundation generates discussion, exposing and intervening within, as well as being part of networks that concentrate on eminent issues. SEA Foundation aims to be a cultural catalyst in the working lives of art professionals.

📆Last few days to visit 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘴 & 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘴 at and to get your hands on the publication made on occasion of the exhibition 🤲

✨ In the exhibition 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘴 & 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘴 we invite the audience to step into a dialogue with the objects they encounter. De artworks each relate to the corporeality of memory in different ways. The physical form is approached from various angles by artists , and .

✨The title refers to how the materiality of a memory moves through time; on the one hand, memories may fade quickly as fleeting moments that exist only in themselves, while on the other, they can leave traces that endure for generations. The title also highlights the possibility for the physical form of a memory to be either crafted by human hands or to serve as a direct imprint of the moment itself. These imprints leave our mark on the world, visualizing the traces we leave behind. Above all, the title points to a duality in transience: clinging or letting go, persistence versus decay, remembering or forgetting.

✨ ‘A Very Last Song’ is a performance installation born from a 1997 field recording: the final bird of its kind—a male ʻōʻō—singing a love song that will never be answered.

✨From this moment of extinction, seven stories unfold together—mythical, ecological, personal, and scientific—tracing fragile threads between humans and birds. At its core, A Very Last Song asks: What if birds are messengers of the unsayable? What if their songs are invitations—to remember, to feel, to reimagine our kinship with each other and our damaged, beloved Earth?

🧱 A history is always made up of a plurality of events. By looking at the places and architectural reminiscences tied to these histories, conceives a sensitive and non-discursive archive throughout his oeuvre. In this accumulation of impressions and memories of sites, we can see how Daubanes moves seamlessly between fact and fiction, deploys narrative and documentation strategies through employing archival work and storytelling.

🚩The visitor in relation to the artwork: how do they position themselves, and what is the viewer seeking in the (art)work? How does the work, or the viewer, relate to the world? Do we see ourselves in the work, or through the work, or do we seek something inside ourselves that is reflected or facilitated by the work?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the pieces presented, Just Quist () playfully propose an incomplete encounter between artwork and viewer, avoiding any attempt at a closed feedback loop.
The experience the viewer takes away from the exhibition might become a memory. That is, if in some way, the viewer is open to it. The encounter between object and viewer, confined to the time frame of the visit, becomes a potential memory—one of which neither the work, the site, nor the artist will ever be aware.

Imprints & Breadcrumbs explores how memory relates to physical form. Can a memory truly be captured in a material object — or do we inevitably create a monument to the memory, rather than the memory itself?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some memories are intentionally called upon, while others emerge spontaneously. They can be deliberately embodied in physical objects or unintentionally left behind as breadcrumbs through time. Some endure, while others fade and disappear.

The works of , , and investigate these traces — from architectural forms and elements of the landscape to crafted objects — revealing how past, present, and future intertwine.

🌿✨ Imprints & Breadcrumbs ✨

From the 25th of January until the 20th of April, Odapark () and SEA Foundation presents the group exhibition.

In Imprints & Breadcrumbs, artists explore the shifting terrain between the ephemeral and the eternal. Through stone, steel, soil, and story, memory becomes something we can touch—even as it slips from our grasp.

Each work in the exhibition plays with presence: forms rooted in landscape and architecture carry layers of lived and imagined histories. These physical imprints become temporary monuments—both anchors and clues.

By engaging with crafted and found objects, Nicolas Daubanes, Marie Farrington, and Just Quist offer a poetic reflection on memory’s material legacy: what we keep, what we lose, and what we find again.

🗓 On view at Odapark until 20 April 2025

🌿✨ Imprints & Breadcrumbs ✨

From the 25th of January until the 20th of April, Odapark () and SEA Foundation presents the group exhibition.

Imprints & Breadcrumbs delves into the subtle relationship between memory and material. Objects become vessels—deliberate or accidental—of remembrance. Some are built with care, others simply remain, shaped by time and chance. They may help us remember, regulate, or even forget.

Memories, once embodied, scatter like breadcrumbs across time. Some endure, some fade. These fragments become echoes—resonating across the past, grounding us in the present, and hinting at futures already unfolding.

The exhibition invites us to follow these traces through works by Nicolas Daubanes, Marie Farrington, and Just Quist—each artist exploring how material form can preserve, distort, or transcend memory.

🌿✨ Imprints & Breadcrumbs ✨

From the 25th of January until the 20th of April, Odapark () and SEA Foundation presents the group exhibition.

✨Imprints & Breadcrumbs explores the physical in relation to memory. The material form of a memory can help us remember, regulate or maybe even forget. Remembrance catalyzed by these objects can be sought out but can also befall upon you. These monuments that capture a memory in physical form, can be intentionally forged or come to exist out of controlled or intended fabrication. Is it always in vain to try to materialize a memory? Does the fleeting and perishable nature of the past mean that such efforts inevitably fall short, resulting only in a memorial to the memory rather than capturing the memory itself?

✨In the exhibition, the artists explore the possibilities the tangible holds in becoming a catalyst or vessel. By looking at architectural forms, elements found in the landscape and crafted objects, Nicolas Daubanes (), Marie Farrington () and Just Quist() examine the immortality or impermanence of memories through their embodiment of a physical form.
