Elena Gorbunova’s artistic practice focusses on upcycling polypropylene and other plastics. With love and many hours of intensely working this material Elena transforms these used plastics bottles and bags into beautiful and super lightweight wearable art objects.
In her latest series “At the Cellular” Gorbunova explores the idea of identity on a microscopical level. This is shown both in the highly precise way of working as in the cell-like structure in which she composes her art jewellery.
The brooches, necklaces, rings and earrings on display all have wonderful patterns. Some pieces are decorated with beautiful gemstones. Glamour at various levels. Elena’s approach transforms ubiquitous plastic into beautiful pieces of art jewellery, each one worth wearing and cherishing.
Elena Gorbunova studied with Professor Theo Smeets at Hochschule Trier’s department of gemstone and jewelry design, in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. Her work can be found in many private collections and in the Dallas Museum of Art (USA), collection Deedie Potter Rose.
