“Local stories” – A Global Tapestry of Personal Narratives
Groningen, Netherlands, 2024.09. 14 –10.17 ,”Unexpected” gallery is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition, “Local stories”, a captivating collection of artwork from a diverse group of international artists. This exhibition, curated by Lena Chvičija (Lithuania), will open its doors to the public on 2024.09.14.
Inspired by the successful 2022 exhibition, “Local stories” at Vilnius’ GODÒ Gallery, continues to explore the power of personal narrative through art. Thirty artists from eight countries have contributed unique pieces, each measuring 30x30cm, that offer intimate glimpses into their lives, thoughts, and experiences.
The concept for this travelling exhibition was born from a serendipitous event. “While transporting artwork for a previous exhibition, I found that some pieces were easily cleared through customs, while others were detained,” explains curator . “This inspired me to create an exhibition where artists could contribute works that could be easily transported, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.”
Unexpected gallery is thrilled to partner with L.Chvičija to bring this unique collection to Groningen. “We have a long-standing relationship with Lena and her work, and we are excited to present this exhibition in our space,” said Kors van Bladeren.
“Local stories” is a celebration of diversity and individuality. With a wide range of artistic styles and techniques on display, from abstract to realistic, the exhibition offers a rich and varied visual experience. The small format of the works has challenged artists to create compelling compositions within a limited space, resulting in a collection of intimate and thought-provoking pieces.
