Almost a year has passed.
On 1 November, it will be exactly one year since I first presented a phase of my ongoing NI(L)A research at the premiere of NILA NL at Theatre Royal in The Hague.
Since then, I have been so deeply immersed in creating the work, presenting it and navigating everything production requires that I had not yet given myself the space to return fully to one of my greatest loves: developing the visual language of NI(L)A.
Over the past months, that finally began to shift. With the support of multidisciplinary artist , I have been able to enter a new visual research phase. Together, we explored new mediums, materials and ideas, exchanged with other artists and created new work.
We developed framed works and textile installations, created new film and sound art, and began building both a soundscape archive and a photographic archive. We experimented with how these different materials and forms can carry the many (sometimes literal) layers within NI(L)A.
Although this is still very much a work in progress, the results already excite me. Thank you, Rachid, for everything you have done to make this possible and for supporting the development of this chapter and the next.
Thank you for allowing me to work from the atelier during my time in Casablanca. The space was wonderful and truly added to the ‘residency’ vibe I was looking for. Also a big shokran for having my work presented during one of your exclusive viewings. A great artist and human.
