📖 Discover the untold story of a Kingdom’s glory and a history that must be told.

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of our new book, "Benin 1897: Art and the Restitution Question" by Peju Layiwola, now available at Crowne Art Gallery!

Step into the rich legacy of the Great Benin Kingdom, one of the oldest and most sophisticated civilizations in Africa, renowned for its world-class bronze casting, ivory carvings, and royal artistry.

But in 1897, the infamous Benin Invasion (the Punitive Expedition) changed the course of history. The British forces razed the palace, exiled the Oba, and looted thousands of priceless artifacts a painful chapter that scattered Benin’s heritage across the world.

This book serves as a powerful visual and intellectual journey into that history, exploring the enduring question of restitution and the resilience of Benin's culture.

Come see it for yourself! Visit us at Crowne Art Gallery to get your copy today and celebrate our heritage.
